Bank of Ireland gets tough with customers

    Posted 2 hours ago

Bank of Ireland is due to introduce tough new conditions for customers on Monday.

But it has also announced that it will close down the accounts of customers from April 16 who do not adhere to strict new rules.

Customers have been told that their online banking facilities will be halted if they stop using the account or accumulate bad debts that can't be recovered.

The action by Bank of Ireland was announced just before the bank begins to administer fees against customers with current accounts if they do not abide by strict criteria.

This will result in thousands being forced to cough up expensive fees for the very first time, excluding students and pensioners.

If you do not have a cumulative 3,000 lodged to your account each quarter and make at least nine payments excluding standing orders and direct debits you will be charged.

In an obvious move away from free banking, Bank of Ireland will then levy customers for using their accounts.

The terms and conditions have also been altered, with the bank now saying it will bring in new charges, change fees or remove a service whenever it likes.
