    It's out already ;).

Heating was close to 50-60% in the car during the cold spell,it wasn't good for a big car/jeep,so got out the old one the other week and it's a right mess, probably never changed.

The fumes off other cars can be had already through the system,:(.

Just go to your local Motor Factors.

As far as I can see- they are always cheaper than micksgarage. Just look one up in Golden pages.

I know people who have successfully used filters for the kitchen extractor fans. They were using ones with activated carbon to improve the filtering capabilities.
This involved a bit of DIY as the kitchen filters are much larger but they were using the frames from the old filters and just cut the new ones to size.
AFAIR both types were around the same price but you can cut up to 4-5 cabin filters from one large kitchen filter.

Its a pollen/dust filter they're not supposed to nor will they prevent fumes from entering the car. The fact the old one was so full of crud may have been blocking some fumes and now its gone you are actually getting air flow.
If you are getting bad fumes worth checking your own exhaust system is gas tight ;)

You could try lillil's suggestion but make sure it's sturdy or you could end up trying to remove it from the fan :) IMO buy one.

    Nice tip there,;).

The original filter pops out of the filter housing so it could be easily done :).
