    Hey Guys,

I'm considering a possible move to Athenry in the next few months and I was wondering if anyone could help me out with the frequency of public transport up there. I recently sold my car so I'll be commuting from Athenry once I can secure a job... Does anyone know if there's adequate transport getting into the industrial parks/city centre etc for commuters?

You could get the train into the city centre and pick up one of the buses from there to the industrial estates

All you never wanted to know about Galway's public transport: www.GalwayTransport.info (disclaimer: yes, I am the person behind the site)

Getting to the city from Athenry ... there are a few BE services, a few trains, and Farrells who run a few services. Hopefully their website will be better soon.

From the city, public transport to the estates in the Parkmore area (where the big ones are) is pretty good, by Galway standards . (Parkmore area map).

Liosbán isn't as good, but isn't impossible provided you don't mind a bit of a walk. Westside isn't too bad. Dangan and Galway West Business Park aren't great though.

Really, I wouldn't be contemplating choosing somewhere in Galway to live without knowing where I was working. Expecially if there's any chance that you'll be working shifts.

14 trains each way between Athenry and Galway daily at the moment. I think that figure will rise to 16 trains each way in the next couple of months.

They are supposed to be building a station at Oranmore soon (this year hopefully). The station will be quite near Oranmore Business Park (which is an employment hub) as the crow flies but it is a long walk using the existing available route which is very indirect. I really hope they build a new direct walkway from the station to the Business Park. Building a walkway makes perfect sense to me but I won't hold my breath on it actually happening..
