    hey gang
i am swimming regualrly now and decided to invest in a decent pair of aquaspehere goggles worth 30e.

there a year old, and they are leaving water in in one of the eyes now.

i thought these goggles were gonna be a job for life, how long do goggles last before they let water in?!

    thanks
    ed

    Hi Ed,

How long they last is a function of how good they are, how often you use them and where you use them. At some point the gasket will degrade to the point that water gets in. The gasket will probably degrade quicker in pools than in fresh water.

I use Aquasphere and they last about a year before they start leaking.

Sounds like its time to re-invest.

I have the same problem myself, a year is about the most I can get out of a pair of goggles. I'm trying rinsing them out with water after every use to see if that extends their life at all (like I do with my wetsuit) but obviously it will take a while to see if it has any affect, it's not going to do any harm anyway.

I have the same problem with the googles i buy. first pair was ~€10 and always leaked with 1 length.
Then i bought speedos for ~€20 and were great for about 1 week. Now they always leak within 2-3 lengths.
Always on the left eye. had a try with other people googles and same leaking in the left eye.
Probably the shape of my eye
Dont want to spend loads of my on a pair if they are gonna leak because of my eye shape.
    What to do?

I have a great pair i bought for 6 quid. They have probably been in the water for about 50 hours over the course of a year and still doing well.
Depends somewhat on the shape of your head

Goggles like swimwear will degrade and will need to be replaced. Thats why people will usually have a seperate competition version of their toggs, hat and goggles. Back in the day we used the swedish goggles so you were replacing eyepieces, the string in the middle or the rubber. Now I just use cheap chinese goggles that have my perscription. I would love to get the latest racing style goggles, but it would mean wearing contacts as I've gotten used to being able to see everything :D
