Labour party PRSI exemption policy

Saw in a local paper advertisement by Jan o Sullivan that Labour have a policy saying that once they get in power they will immediately give employers an 18 month break from paying employers PRSI on any employee they hire that has been unemployed for 6 months or more. Sounds great right?

Not for anyone unhappy in their job, as you will never get past an interview for a new one if you don't have that PRSI exemption. To change jobs, you would have to get fired, and go on social welfare for 6 months, just to be eligible for that tax exemption.

In fact, if your employers shut, or you lose your job through no fault of your own, you would now be forced to sit on social welfare for at least 6 months before you'd even have a chance at a job interview for MAYBE getting back to work.

Closed my mind to any vote for Labour, I'm now stuck giving my vote to FG by default.

Labour will extend the Employer PRSI Incentive Scheme, and extend the exemption period to 18 months, to incentivise employers to employ people who have been on the live register for 6 months or more. We will ensure that employers are made aware of this and other job incentive schemes.

Good spot. Bloody hell, what are they thinking with that one? So basically if I get let go from my job in the morning I am essentially excluded from the job market for 6 months as no employer in their right mind will employ someone unless they have this 6 month exemption.......well done Labour!

a reply from Jan O Sullivan when I queried her on this
    Hello Mike,

Thank you for getting in touch. I understand your concern about the policy but PRSI holiday is only one part of the greater Labour plan to create jobs and help people find work. It should be considered as part of this wider policy framework when you are considering its merits. I have included a link to our manifesto below and if you would like to find more detail on our policy it can be found there.

    http://www.labour.ie/manifesto/

The PRSI holiday is only intended to be used for new Jobs being created so that employers are encouraged and enabled to create new positions. Labour has also proposed a jobs fund, investment in the knowledge economy, tourism & agri food industry which when taken together, should ensure greater Job opportunities for everyone.

    Best wishes,

    Jan

This also comes from the party who told people on the dole they are only fit for "retro-fitting" bulidings and retail work.

Do not get me wrong there is nothing wrong with either of those jobs but seriously they need to create jobs in all sectors - such as architects, IT, engineers, all office based jobs etc. I mean alot of people on the dole are well educated people with numerous degrees who want to aspire to more than working for min wage.
