Men and Women - how important is hotness?

I was just pondering this today. The men I've been out with have varied greatly in looks. Some better than others. But I loved them all! :D

In a relationship, for me the clinchers are always chemistry (that great undefinable thing that means you find yourself wanting to get to know them better and feel excited talking to them) and shared sense of humour. I think also think it's very important to connect on a mental level.

Hairy men turn my head (and I think all men look "hotter" scruffier), but not all my boyfriend have been hairy so that means nothing to me in the end (though current boyfriend is wonderfully hairy). Looks never really come into it all that much for me (or at least conventional looks). I wouldn't find obesity attractive, and don't like 'em snake-hipped either. Anything in between is fine. Height doesn't matter either.

So, men and women, how important are looks to you in a relationship?

Just as important as personality and sense of humour!

    Very important.

All my ex's were ridiculously beautiful.

Anything above 20 degrees will do me.

In the winter I'll go as low as 15 because comparitively speaking that's pretty hot.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,750 ✭✭✭liah

I dunno. Not particularly important, but there has to be something there that I'm attracted to. That definitely doesn't mean they must be conventionally attractive though. I've been told on a variety of occasions that I have odd tastes. :pac:

Still, there's been many a time when I've not initially been physically attracted to a person, but that attraction developed over time as I learned more about them.

    But, I mean.. there's limits.

    It really depends...

For flings, it's the most important thing.
For relationships, it's not as important as other things. Although there does need to be chemistry, of course.

And I tend to think of hotness in a little unorthodox way... Brad Pitt for example does nothing for me at all. But I fancy the pants of Neil Oliver.

Usually how it happens for me too. Which is why I was never into the pub/club pulling scene.

The less make-up a girl wears = the less she has to hide = the hotter she is.

But humour and personality are the main ones. Dry, sour wimmen who only live for things like Grey's Anatomy can fùck right off :pac:

Ah, it's ok, no need to reply. I cruelly and coldly cast my eye over threads on this board all the time. Many don't make the grade. :p

Personality can make a person extremely hot or extremely not.

Definitely agree. I know a very pretty girl with a killer figure who absolutely RUINS herself with fake tan. Why? WHY?

Yes, maybe... but I do have this thing for men with long hair.
Who incidentally are in bloody short supply here in Ireland.

Oh yesss... I'd have me some Ed!

For me it's all about the chemistry. I mightn't be with the most conventionally attractive man in the world, but if we have a bit of a sizzle none of that will matter.

Looks aren't as important as sandwich making skills

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 361 ✭✭silverspoon

I think 'hotness' is subjective really. I mean, there are standards I'd say we'd all generally agree on, but something that's a complete turn-off to one person might be completely different for someone else.

Anyway, personality shapes the way you see someone. I've often found people seem more physically attractive to me if they have a great (and by great I mean one which clicks with me ha) personality, and vice versa.

There are things which are less to do with natural looks which are important to me, like grooming, a reasonable interest in appearance, all that. I'm not talking about serious routines or anything, just a nice haircut, sense of own style, regular showering...

What about the Terry Nutkins look, bald on top, long hair back and sides?

Can - I repeat, CAN look interesting. Not on Terry Nutkins and not on Bill Bailey, though...

    I don't think I would...
While someone has to be funny in order to be sexy, being funny alone makes nobody sexy.

    True.

I was surprised by how many UK women find Dylan Moran unbelievably hot. He's my favourite comedian but hot? No.

He looks cute all right... but hot? No. Too shakey and too incoherent.
I think for the Brits, the accent has a lot to do with finding him hot.

I don't go for hotness at all, it's usually a sign there's something wrong with the fembot or the blowups already been used recently.

I wouldn't shave my cluster for any woman, take it as it is honey, like a coiled cobra in a nest of mangroves.

Nice ripe fent of bag sweat and a fine clean knob primed and glistening.

    Fcuking cheek of you missus:mad:

i have to say i always thought Hotness and chemistry went hand in hand until the current girl im seeing....very very hot but there is just nothing between us no passion nothing should be ending soon i reckon

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,333 ✭✭✭RichieC

I met many women who first i thought I wouldn't go for but after yapping to them would have totally gone for it.

so I think it's really only top priority to the soulless crowd looking for an arm piece.

Well, duh! :p The amount of good-looking fellas I've known that I felt nothing for...

Chemistry and hotness are two separate things, though they can run concurrently.

Not worried missus, it's your loss.

Stick to the ladyboys if you want to, real men are out there and no fcuking bald bolloxes on them.

By real men you mean those guys who will try their best to impress other guys with their manliness, right?

I prefer guys with enough self-confidence to shave the right bits and not worry about how that might look to their mates.

I've never known any girl who preferred pubes in her mouth to a nice smooth crotch.

Well, I prefer trimmed to wild or bald, so there's no pubes in the mouth and it doesn't look ridiculous. Win-win. :p

Why do I picture you kneeling on a bed - a bored but benevolent smile on your lips as you watch Holby City on the telly - while poor old Bill, grateful, wide eyed and slobbering, avails of this fine reward you have granted him.

Nothing to do with self confidence missus, most girls, when they are warmed up and dripping like a George Forman Grill, are not worried about the appearance of their lover's giblets, and vice versa.

Just get on with it, and savour the juices sister, you come across a bit wooden and stilted to me.
