Sky Apartment Shared Dish

    Hi

SKY have been bombarding my apartment block with letters and leaflets since installing a shared dish system a few months back. They have a cable which extends from the roof down to outside my apartment and each apartment.

I have no intention of forking out for SKY

What I was thinking was if I could extend the cable into my apartment and plug it into a freeview box would I be able to use the shared dish ? or is it likely the dish is secured in some fashion.

Apologies if this is a stupid question or has been asked before.

    Cheers

Not a stupid question, although there are various threads on here discussing similar situations to yours.

Haven't experienced this first hand myself, but I believe the answer is that it depends on who owns the sat equipment. If it's a sky agent, they may not allow you to connect without taking out a sky subscription. If it's the management company, you can probably connect a non subscription box and contribute to the running cost of the equipment. Five euro per month seems to be a common fee for the latter.

It's quite a thorny matter as it raises all sorts of issues about monopolies, and your freedom to choose your own tv signal provider. Search boards.ie for 'sky conway' and you'll see what I mean!

    Ugh Sky Conway :(

Anyway as stated above, pretty much spot on. TBH you probably wasting your itme connecting it up as most of the time the have disconnected other end of cable on the roof. So you would be only chancing it.

It does belong to someone else and they usually have a quaterly fee for shared use of the dish.
