What happens when a fixed term contract ends?

I am on one at the moment and is due to end in 4 weeks time. I have been told it will be renewed but there hasnt been any moves to do this.

As far as I can tell the want me to continue working here (I have agreed targets with my boss that brings me to the end of the year).

If no contact is offered and I am still doing my job do I get paid?
