With the WGC matchplay starting in a week i was thinking which format people prefer?
VIEWING wise i would guess matchplay for the majority,
the ryder cup must be every golfers favourite event?
or for strokeplay fans it could be The Masters etc?
is it because we rarely get to watch matchplay events or is it for the unpredictable nature of 2 top golfers going toe to toe:D
PLAYING wise what do people prefer?
    as a 4 h/cap'r i prefer matchplay,as i think it favours the lower h/cap golfer,
(giving 3/4 difference)but then maybe its because we rarely get to play it.....
either way roll on next wednesday...Bubba's the man!!

When it's evenly stacked then Matchplay is great. There is nothing worse though than coming up against a lad and giving him 10 shots and having to go around a course level par to have any hope.
Matchplay is the best tactical game in my view.
As for strokeplay, Augusta is only good for 2 things, the music when it shows the scoreboard and the scenery. I personally like The Players.

    Yours etc,

Of course it favours you if you only give 3/4 the difference!
Singles Matchplay is supposed to be full difference.

Love 'em all really... I think there's more personal pride in carding an individual score in strokeplay because there's only you and the course.
In matchplay you can win while not performing all that great and also lose while playing well. For excitement of playing it has to be matchplay... Inter-club is fantastic but I love the club competitions too.
Last year I had better success @ matchplay because I could afford the odd bad hole and move on. Had some easy wins early on and had some great battles in later rounds.

For me its match play. I much prefer the battle against a player rather than the course and I focus quicker than I do in stroke play. In match play you are never beaten until your out of hole's and vice versa for winning as your opponent can rally a late run and knock your confidence instantly with a miraculous up and down or 30ft putt. Whilst I dont engage in gamesmanship I do enjoy when my opponent does against me as it adds more to the game. In stroke play one bad hole can effectively ruin your card.

@ OP... Daddy or Chips question.
67 gross (1 eagle, 3 birdies, no bogies) in the May monthly medal or win your club singles matchplay this year?

In my opinion, matchplay is the way golf was meant to be played and has so many advantages, not least quicker play.
