Bad Attitudes..

Just picking up on the vibe in the Headfort thread and it got me thinking about the various morons I've met in pro-shops, courses, retail outlets and ranges over the years..

There actually seems to be a pretty high percentage now that I think about it..

Without naming names - theres one well known retail outlet in Leopardstown which actually makes me laugh out loud when I see the get up of some the lads in there. At times the one in Blanch isnt much better.

Theres a driving range just of the M50 at Templelogue where you're lucky to get a grunt off the young lads behind the counter as you're effectively paying their wages by handing over your cash!

In relation to pro-shops - Headfort has already been highlighted and I had a similar experience myself up the Slieve Russell before Christmas..

So what is it about these so-called "hot-shots" that makes them so much above us mere mortals??

Thankfully they're in the minority - as the lads in most shops / pro's / courses are sound and helpful..

However - it does seem that there is a requirement for you to be a plank to gain employment in certain golfing institutes in this country!!

a few years ago, Oughterard golf club, Galway
Gentleman in the pro shop was incredibly rude when we (couple) inquired about green fees, 2 of the members in the shop at the time, brought us outside, introduced us to another couple and basically gave us a free round.
Later that week, we tried to enter the open. same story, member took our fee, and sent us out.
Everyone we met on the course were such genuine decent welcoming folk: one and all apologised to us, we went back again and paid the barman this time.
    lovely course still.

The staff in the retail outlet you refer to really are dreadful. I can only imagine that there is little or no emphasis on customer service because the shop has a bit of a monopoly. Perhaps the attitude is coming from the top in these establishments? It's a tough one to figure out but it puts me right off the place.

I dread going into Shop mentioned. I only go up there clothes, hats, gloves etc as it's local. I got a voucher for Xmas so it's handy I don't spend my own cash up there lately!ha

Jeez! to think my thread was locked a short time ago for bad attitudes from PGA pro's not to mention attitudes from staff in golf clubs and retail outlets etc! but however I agree there is an "attitude" problem i'm afraid to say in a small minority in the general golf business but remember they are generally low paid and get a bit of a kick from the ordinary joe soap thinking that they are aspiring tour players.

Someone once told me that the worst thing about Oughterard golf club that it was in Oughterard!

I've played there a few times and the guy working the pro shop was very nice. I broke a strap for my bag before the round and he when out of his way to get me a new one, at no cost.

played in open week in connemara g.c a few year's ago in the singles. was lucky to have entered the 2's comp and had a 2's on each singles comp . when i went to the pro shop to enquire about the results, pro said i had €10.00 to spend considering i had paid €2 each time i only got €6 for 2 2's. he had no list of 2 's winners done up and "guestimated my amount, so i guestimated my €10.00 was worth 6 prov's and a ball marker and away i went out of the shop with the pro's chin bouncing off the counter. felt good
