    Anyone got any information on this? I'm doing a project on Betting Tax at the minute and I'm trying to gather as much resources as I can. One of the things thats difficult to come across is a rough market share - like apie chart of who holds what % of the gambling market in Ireland. From what I've seen Paddy Power hold 32%...

    Anyone got any figures for the remaining 68%?

    Cheers!

    The 32% you may have seen from 2009 is a retail figure only which you can imagine is calculated from total tax payable to the revenue against what Paddy Power paid.

    It's going to be difficult to measure the online Irish business as there is no exact overall figure for the Irish online gambling reposted anywhere, nor any taxes paid at present. How do you measure the Irish market is what you should be asking yourself? Bets placed from Ireland geo location? Bets placed with Irish bookmakers even from UK? Bets placed through Irish payment methods even in UK with UK bookie(CC, Debit etc..,?) How does Poker, Casino, Games fit in? Depending on how you look at it you're figure and market will forever change.

    However Paddy Power being a plc you should be able to find something here on the site www.paddypowerplc.com

    You might be better off waiting for the 2011 results and having a sniff there where they may show a competitor analysis.
    Paddy Power plc will issue the following announcements during the first 8 months of 2011:

    - Preliminary results for the year ended 31st December 2010 at 7am on Monday, 7th March 2011;

    - An interim management statement at 7am on Tuesday, 17th May 2011, coinciding with its AGM to be held later that day;

    - Interim results for the 6 months ended 30th June 2011 at 7am on Tuesday, 30th August 2011.

    Don't forget Full Tilt Poker.

    Irish operated and run. No Irish gaming licence. Huge.

    Cheers for the replies; the 32% is from this link http://www.independent.ie/business/irish/tax-burden-could-push-paddy-power-to-go-offshore-2086224.html

    Again it's dated but I wouldn't imagine significant change has occured. In terms of online and telephone gambling a PwC report at the start of last year valued it at €800m.

    It's a broad topic to tackle but key questions arising for me are;
    The fact poker and casino games are betting duty free despite the fact they are clearly gambling.
    [ii] That the full Betting Duty take goes toward only HRI and BNG despite the fact that clearly Football/GAA/Golf etc comprise a large amount of bets nowadays.

    Don't want to be negative but you really haven't a hope in hell of getting any meaningful figures.
    On Line is impossible as Bluetonic has said, there are many players who wouldn't pay any Irish tax for bets they take from Irish residents.
    Retail would be easier but the way the industry is going, there will only be 4/5 big players left in it.
    Another one to bite the dust is Euro bookmakers in Waterford, don't know how big they were though.
    Powers, Boyles, Lads and Hills to a very small extent will make up the vast major of the bookmaking industry over the next few years.
    Most independents will struggle to keep up with the special offers/money backs etc they are doing.
    I've heard there are some bookies willing to quote arbs with Betfair just to get the turnover in their shops.
