I recently bought a new 42'' LG TV.

Model - LG 42LD450 LCD TV.

It is a full HD TV. It says 1080p on the box and when I looked it up online.
For some reason I can only get 1080i.
I have HD with UPC and in the settings on the digital box there is an option for 720p and 1080i but no 1080p.
I also have a PS3 and the only option thats works is 720p or 1080i.
Its as if the TV does not support 1080p but I know it does.
Could it be my HDMI cables? One was €25 about 2 years ago, bought with my PS3 and the other was bought recently. Its a Technik (Tesco special)but both have gold connectors.

Any help figuring out what the problem is would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

Is it possible that the source (UPC box or PS3) is set to output at 1080i?

I don't use either UPC or a PS3 so I'm probably not the most informed on this one but I do know that a Sky HD box will not do 1080p and an Apple TV will only do 720p so it might be an idea to check the output from your sources. AFAIK a PS3 should do 1080p.

Thats definitely just the fact the set top box doesnt do 1080p, the reason being that upc hd is only 720p/1080i anyway so there is little point in letting the box upscale to 1080p

The PS3 is the worrying thing here. If 1080p is available, the PS3 should pick it up.

    Thanks for the replies!

Yea thats fair enough about the upc. Not to bothered but the PS3 has been annoying me for ages. My uncle has the same TV but a 37 inch and his is 1080p. I even got a new PS3 recently thinking that would fix it and its the same. Really want it for gaming.

Under the PS/3 Settings > Display Settings > Video Output.
    Manually set HDMI for 576p, 720p, 1080i & 1080p and Save.

    PS/3 video settings

TV should auto-detect 1080p, but double check the TV's Display Settings menu

Any old HDMI leads should be fine if they're only 1-2m long.
