Car for the missus

Looking to get a car for the missus and am aiming to get her something she'll actually like.. As opposed to the vans I've made her drive the last few years. I figure this will be the last time for a while she'll be able to have something impractical before chizzlers start coming along..

I've a few choices... Something impractical - means I need a second more practical car to lug gear around or something semi practical so we could prob get away with one car...

    Impractical - Mazda MX5, 206cc, 307cc
Praticalish - Audi TT, Beetle (her fav), Mini

Is there anything else I could/should add to the list. Ideally she needs something with boot space as during the summer she has to cart around boxes for work. Although if needs be I could work something out. In reality the car will be sold in a years time so we could prob last one summer of minor hassle... Also, givin that i'll have to drive and be a passenger in the car. I'm 6'3" so I could do with something I wont be squashed into... I've around €6k +/- to spend.

Dont get the beetle, they are clunky piece of rubbish on a golf basis. really dont get it. of the above i would choose the MX5 or the Audi TT or Mini. Leave the others aside.

I'd read that the beetle was a bit of a junker... It's a shame cause she loves them. Mx5 comes in a close 2nd but is quite small... TT seems like a good compromise...

You'll need patience to find a decent one for €6000, you will get one though. A friend has a 225bhp 2001 model. I think it's fairly rotten really, a very sterile drive.

I think the TT would be a good choice. I wouldnt have any fear buying one at that type of price either. They are pretty bulletproof if you buy a reasonably looked after one

The Beetle is a pig. It's a Golf with a different body - and as a result, it's mishapen. The opening for the boot widthways is tiny, so it's difficult to get anything in. Back seat space is better even in the MINI for some weird reason, and the dashboard to windscreen distance is nearly .75 of a metre. The whole thing's just badly designed.

My Niece is reluctantly selling her '02 Black TT quattro 225,
Reason for sale is her child is getting too big for the baby seat in the back.
It will break her heart to sell it but life goes on.
    All can say is this:
The car is serviced on the button
Will need a decent polish up.
Wheels? I am not certain about condition but I could imagine they would be pretty good.
There is something over 70k miles on it. I spoke with her today as she wanted my advice on what to do.. ( I think she wanted me to say DON'T SELL IT) :D
I am not sure of exact mileage but 70 + ( maybe 73 or 74k)

Other than that I can 100% say she never drove this car hard.. She is not a fast driver. Actually over cautious if I say so myself.
She had a couple of Tigra's before this and a Puma among others so they were all a "Girlie style" sort of thing.. and NO she is not a hairdresser :D

She lives in County Cork.. if you are in any way interested then PM me.
I can arrange a meeting or her contact details..
But before you do anything.. I can assure you that you will NOT get it for 6k .. 7k would even be pushing it.
I know she was saying an asking price of 8.5:9k but will haggle.;)

Herself has a 206cc. The boot isn't that bad, and there's some space in the unusable back seats, but you obviously couldn't haul boxes around with the roof folded into the boot. That said, it really only works because I have a focus h/b and we can swap cars when she needs to carry more people or more stuff.

I would never buy a 206cc without a garage warranty behind it. At the end of the day, its gonna be a 5+ year old Peugeot. Herself had com 2000 unit gone on the day she bought it, but didn't notice. Had to replace instruments cluster within 3 months of purchase. Lots of niggly electrical problems. Luckily all covered by guarantee and she has no problems asserting her consumer rights, ensured all new parts for each problem. I believe the 207cc is more robust, but we haven't had one.

But if you're getting 2 cars, I couldn't recommend a convertible enough. Sure, the top only comes down about 20 days of the year, but it's fantastic when it is down. You know those infuriating sunny days, trying to get to the seaside in a line of traffic? It's actually quite pleasant and relaxing with the top down, you don't mind at all. People say Ireland isn't suited for convertibles, but I think it's fine. I lived in California and you wouldn't dare go around getting scalded with the top down.

I have to agree, they've never done much for me. I also find them quite claustrophobic, and i'm only 6'.

As Corkblowin asks though, what does she like? It may be that her ideal car is more practical than anything on the list.

I talked the wife into getting a Mini Cooper, she loves it and I really like to borrow it. You'll want a Cooper or S, though, the One is a bit dead.

The CCs are slow and ugly, the Beetle is slow, ugly and ridiculously badly packaged.

The MX-5 is lovely, and the TT is way, way more powerful than all the others, as well as being a nice place to sit.
