    Hi everyone!

I am hoping to do the great limerick run half marathon on the 1st of May and I am looking for a training plan. There is one on the website... http://www.greatlimerickrun.com/Half_Marathon_Training_Plan1.pdf and it looks great but the only thing is I go to Bootcamp on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. I also have soccer training Saturday afternoons so have a lot on on the Saturday and realistically wouldn't be able for the long run that day, just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how I could tweek this plan to suit my exercise routine at the moment?

Any suggestions/tips would be welcome! Also I am a bit confused as to the days where it says to do Core work... would my bootcamp cover this? We usually do sit-ups, press-up's, squats etc... so I assume it would but not sure.

    Thanx!

Il move this over to the athletics/running/tri forum as you may get more responses and appropraite traffic there OP.

IMO - as the mileage builds up, you will deffo have to cut out some bootcamp/soccer as it could become a little too much and leave you more at risk of injury

Switch the long run day to Sunday easy 2 mile Mon (no boot camp) continue with boot camp wed and Friday instead of plans training and depending on how you feel or how intensive sat soccer is, either leave it in or skip it. When the mileage starts to go over distance you have not covered yet I would definitely skip the soccer.

Thanx for yer replies and sorry for posting in wrong forum!

Yeah I was thinking I'd need to cut out something alright to stop me from getting burned out, I'm new to all this running and this will be my first marathon, the most I've ever done is ran 6 miles in about 60mins so I've a long way to go to 13!!

    Hi Pixie Girl,

If you want to keep up your bootcamp and soccer, you can easily fit in a few runs on your off days. After a tough Saturday(soccer training and bootcamp), I would use Sunday as rest day and try and get runs in tuesday, thursday and fridays and one of these days would have to be a long slow run and the other two shorter, slightly faster runs. You are getting plenty of interval and core training with your other pursuits.

Long slow run - if you could start at 5(8k) miles and increase gradually every week untils you are at a minimum of 10(16k) miles 10 to 14 days before half marathon day.

Other 2 runs, start at 3miles(5k) and build up to 6miles(10k).

Week before marathon, do 3 short slow runs and take the saturday before the race off from soccer and bootcamp.

You must already have a decent level of fitness and I think a half marathon would come easy if you put in the above work.

Hi Havanna, thanx very much for the sound advice... That's a very good plan and something I think I could stick to. I'm not completely unfit but then again I would be fairly out of breath during each bootcamp and soccer training session but hopefully with this plan that will improve. Thanx again.

    Hi Pixie Girl,

I have done 2 half marathons in the last year on similar 3 runs a week training and I do soccer training twice a week so quiet similar to your regime and I am also training for the Limerick half marathon.

Best of luck with your training and preparation for the race.

Try www.halhigdon.com most people start here, the novice plans are relatively low mileage and will get you around the course safely.
