Toothpastes and mouthwashes

Just a quick question for the dentists in the forum.

Do any of you have a 'preference' for what toothpaste or mouthwash your patients should use?

Would you tell them not to use a grocery store's 'own brand' and only go for branded products or would you say 'it's all pretty much the same'.

I'm not talking about whitening products here just regular toothpaste and mouthwashes.

I saw fitzgeme recommending fiacla because it's Irish (good man!) :) What reasons would you give for recommending one brand over another (if any).

By the way, for full disclosure, I work in medical communications but these questions are not for a client, they're general interest and sparked by the fact that I've just come back from a dental appointment :)

It is easier to say what to not use. Generally avoid non fluoride toothpastes and whitening toothpastes. Again generally mouthwashes are not usually required unless specifically suggested by your dentist.
    Hope this helps

I think that a lot of the marketing is a load of rubbish, tooth paste should be flouride containing and non abrasive. I recommend Fiacla for patriotic reasons. I like non alcohol mouthwashes as I don't think rinsing with alcohol twice a day is a good idea, I recommend a soft brush usually a tesco or dunnes value pack of three for a euro. Its not what you use its they way you use it.
