Mechanic wanted for pre-purchase check - Wed 16th February

    Hi,

    I am looking for a mechanic to take a look at a late 2004 (new model) Skoda Octavia 1.9TDI on Wednesday evening in Ashbourne.

    The car is high-ish mileage @ 127,000 so just want to get it checked before parting with any cash.

    Does anyone have any recommendations?

    Is there any history ?. Before you even look at the car enquire to see if the clutch & flywheel have been replaced. Also check for timing belt and waterpump replacement.

    AA provide a car checking service. Don't think it's too expensive.

    Hi, yeah, have checked the history as there is a FSH with the car, no clutch / flywheel replaced though so this is something I have to factor into my purchase I guess. To be honest, I am still in two minds over the purchase as the mileage is heading towards that which the car is going to be giving problems here and there.

    T. Belt was done at 81,000 miles so not due for another while yet.

    I thought the AA car check service was approx €300 - €400 going on some of the posts here in other threads even though I hear it is meant to be quite thorough.

    Id be very surprised if there wasnt a new flywheel fitted at some stage if there is anywhere over 100k miles covered. The only ones ive seen last that long are ones driven very sympathetically.
