    Hey,

Just wondering if anyone could recommend any good hosels to stay in in Berlin. I am going ther for 2/3 nights in the middle of March during the week. Somewhere that's cheapish, friendly and with lots of backpackers would be ideal.

    Cheers

Never stayed here but have heard good things about it. Meant to be one of the best hostels in the city.

I've stayed in Helter Skelter - it's a great party hostel.
I've also heard good things about Heart of Gold hostel.

Both of them are central and relatively cheap.

I stayed in Wombats and Meiniger (cant spell it!) last year, both relatively close to one another, both good experiences-Wombats was the better though! good for the social scene-bar on the roof, pool table and balcony to chill out on and look out over Berlin, free wi-fi too, which was nice!! Booked through hostelworld, rooms were great, not over crowded and the ubahn is 15 seconds outside the door, breakfast is good (as far as i can remember it was included 1 morning at least!) and the little cafe below/beside it (where you get breakfast in the morning) does great burgers and stuff in the evenings, jazz and blues posters up on the walls. Theres a pastry place across the road that does a great breccie and are open mad early which we used quite a bit on the way back from the nightclubs! Thats just my experience though!
Enjoy Berlin, easily my favourite city!!!

I've stayed in Generator too - fantastic experience. It's not in the city centre but it's easy to get there - about 20 mins from what I remember? Definitely worth the distance anyway. It's like a giant hotel just for young people. Great craic.

Went there two years ago with a group of friends. We stayed in city stay hostel http://www.citystay.de. Nice hostel with clean rooms and clean showers. Also there was a bar and a nice beer garden. It was in a great location too. It's close to the Berlin TV tower and also to a big train station (cant remember name but staff were helpful and gave good directions) which provides links to everywhere in the city. As for places to go at night........Tresor nightclub is a big techno club which is unreal. Great experience even if you're not huge into techno......admittedly not everyone's cup o tea tho. Check it out online. Plenty of great spots to go though....we were never disapponted. Get advice from other people in the hostel.

Would the generator hostel be suitable for a young solo female traveller?

St Christophers hostels Berlin. A group of us stayed there, it was perfect. Nice friendly bar downstairs with good cheap grub and the subway outside the bar door. Couldn't be handier. Minutes from anywhere :)

I stayed in East Kreuzberg for a week last summer, brilliant location! There are loads of really chilled bars which are great.

Tresor is one of the biggest clubs in Berlin, very good club.

Matrix is also a great club, it has 3 or 4 different DJ's on each night.

I would highly recommend doing the Sandemans New Berlin Pub Crawl, it was brilliant: unlimited free beer for the first hour, then a free shot of Jagermeister with every drink.
