Right I need boards to help settle a debate, A mate was on about gaf parties and charging in and said that it was legal, im not to sure (eg gards busting warehouse raves etc...)

so lets say you had the perfect scenario

    * you own a detached house / warehouse / whatever thats atleast 1km on any side from neighbours so noise or property is not an issue ,

    * you charged in per person

    * you didnt serve drink or sell smokes

    * you employed security to keep the drugs and weapons out of it

    * you declared profit from it to the revenue and did all that end of it propper

    - is there any legal issue with it at all

Yup, you'll need planning permission and a health&safety and fire cert.

He said they wouldn't sell drink or cigs.

He didn't say people couldn't bring them.

How many house parties have you been at where the host sells drink and cigs?

You go to parties where they sell drink and smokes?

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Would it not be cheaper to just have a sleep over or Pyjama party???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,321 ✭✭✭✭MrStuffins

if you're going to be charging people, they're no doubt strangers. Nobody is going to invite your friends around to your gaff for a few cans and charge them to come in, and the friends CERTAINLY wouldnt pay, they'd just go to one of their own houses for free.

So, which kind of strangers will pay to go to a stranger's party where there is absolutely no perk for the money they're forking over? the kinda people who will turn up, rape your security, rob everything that isnt nailed down, wreck the place and draw graffiti penises on your sleeping grandmother,

If you have a stock of cans that people can help themselves to you can get around not having a licence to serve alcohol.

None, that is the hypothetical part of the scenario.

Bringing your own drink and fags is standard for all house parties tbh.

Reminds me of the foam party in Hardy Bucks.

    so is not charging!

Actually that’s only if you are actually “charging” people. If I had a house party and “asked” people for a contribution towards the cost of hiring a DJ or something I don’t think it would be a legal issue. The problem would be how you would make sure that everyone paid this contribution without actually charging them an entry fee.

    what's a party?

    yeah.

OP, what you need is big bowls - then you could call yourself a bowling club and have all the exemptions you want.

of course the bowls must be like the bull.

    **** that for a laugh.

The only legal way is to create a "club" with paid membership that so happens to meet up at a location such as said gaff.

I remember getting the private buses years ago from donegal to Dublin where they got around the CIE restrictions by basically making people travel club members on each journey and taking your name and money.
