Anyone know where you can get free patterns for foam puppets?

I've looked on-line but there doesnt seem to be anything to good, just want to get a handle on how the process works..

I did a lot of research and this is the best online tutorial I could find for foam-based puppets.
Check out this link! This guy is a legend.

Let me know if you need any advice on where to get supplies.

Here's some of the puppets I made using his technique.

Thanks for that:), really good description on how to go about crafting puppets, unlike a lot of the garbage thats around online.

glad to help! it took me ages to find a good tutorial. It's well worth it in the end :) that guy has loads of online videos about handling puppets...and he's quite easy to listen to!

there's only one good book on muppet-style puppets, but it's kinda pricey...you might be able to get it 2nd hand if you're lucky! It's called 'Jim Henson - The Works'...if you like puppets, this is the book for you.

    a few tips though:
    - if you're making a 'rod' handed puppet, use something other than clothes hangers...they're very jagged and might rip your puppet
    - don't spend lots of money on fabric...just get some cheap thin fleece blankets from penneys or ikea
    - i recommend using ping pong balls for eyes...those styrofoam ball things melt when using a glue gun
    - glue guns rock! but hot glue goes everywhere no matter how careful you are
    - make the arms really thick otherwise it's impossible to turn it inside out and drag the hand through it...you'll see what I mean
    - make the fingers relatively wide too otherwise it's impossible to sew by machine
    - make the bodies very long so that your arm is totally covered

    Have fun makin' 'em :)
