    I got as far as
business-friendly conservative party, Fianna Fáil (pronounced “Feena Foil”),

    and gave up.

Its typical American Sh1te. Reminds me of an american uncle of mine who tried to convince my sister to emigrate to America a few years back. She is a teacher with a permanent job. He told her that he could get her a great job as a waitress. "There's great money in waitressing in the states".

He also told my grandmother years back about his son's great job in a US bank. He wasn't one of the plebs who gave out the money, nor was he a manager. No, he had a far more important job than that - he was responsible for minding the money (A f*ckin Security Guard).

Americans love to get the compressor out and fill things with hot air as they did with the above article. A great country but they would have more hype over one of them having a sh1te than we would for a wedding.

    Article from Vanity Fair.
Had this sent to me today. It's a long article, but worth the read, if you want to understand how we got into the financial mess, we're in.

Fair enough article except for extremely poor editing. Whole chunks on the by-elections due were lost and the article not changed to compensate. And what road from dublin is all small potato fields? It makes me wonder what other bits are not completely accurate. But fair enough on what we know about the political decisions

I thought the Paddy Whackery in the article was bad, until I read the Yank Bashing in the replies above.:D

Fair point made though on how the bankers, Sean Fitzpatrick & co, continued to buy up their own shares in a genuine attempt to prop them up. As if, at the core of what they were doing was just sheer incompetency rather than dishonesty, like a lot of other financial scandals around the world. All these guys too, lost heavily when it all came down around them.

It was a bit of a struggle reading it, took me half an hour last night. Thanks for putting it up pakalsa. I reckon every body b(w)anking with aib or b of i should print it off and post it to their local manager next time they get a letter that starts off::mad:
    Dear X,

It seemed fair to me; it's often interesting to hear what outsiders think. He did a similar article on Greece last October, and Iceland in 2009 (is there a pattern here?) If you think we're in a mess, you should see what he says about Greece.

Funnily enough, one of the differences he found between the Irish and the Greeks is that we're generally interested in hearing what the world thinks of us, while the Greeks just want everyone to fcuk off and leave them be. (He put it more politely than that.)

On a side note, I'm told that Paddy Power the bookmakers is now worth more than AIB...
