Hi, Im 18, 5ft 3 and 123lbs... I would really like to get down to under 110 lbs, I'd like to be somewhere around 106 lbs but Im wondering is this too low? I really have no idea what an ideal weight for my weight, lifestyle, etc would be!

Also I have a question, when I kinda 'fall off the wagon' and gorge on chocolate and biscuits... should I just put it behind me and continue on as normal or should I try and make up for it the next day by having small meals and cutting my calories?

Im really confused about what to do

I calculate your BMI at about 21.8.
You are in a "Healthy Weight" range category.
You do not need to lose any weight.

For information on general healthy eating, see http://www.safefood.eu/en/Consumer/

I know my bmi says Im a healthy weight but I would like to lose a few pounds cause Im really not comfortable in my body atm... its awful during the summer as well when everyones in bikinis and they look awful on me!
Cause I am a good 10 lbs (or more) heavier than the majority of my friends and lots of them are taller as well..

There are few things more off-putting to a man than a woman with visible ribs and a bony back. Your insecurities are one thing, but with a BMI in the 21 range, you do NOT need to lose weight. That said, if you are bent on this, then maybe you should go to a doctor for advice before starting a weight loss programme in order to make sure you don't slip into the underweight category.

Thank you both for the advice, I'll definitely take it into account and think about it.

Tremelo, the thing is I do a lot of hip-hop/modern dance and my coach reccommended that I lose about 10-15 lbs.. that wouldnt put me in the underweight category would it? I know she's not a doctor but.. Also Im confident I know enough about nutrition not to fall into the underweight category and I love food too much lol

Hard to say over the internet but a loss of 15lbs would give you a BMI of 19.1, which puts you teetering on the brink of being in dangerous underweight territory. I'd speak to a doctor rather than a dancer if I were you before you make a decision that could potential damage your body.

<tangent> I agree with what you say here Tremelo, but I'd just make the point that very often, women want to lose weight to feel better about themselves in a way that has nothing to do with men. My boyfriend thinks I look fine but I'm the one who has to go into the changing room and try to fit into a size 14 jeans.</tangent>

True. I have a massive ego, don't mind it ;)

If you want to look good in a bikini ie.toned, then you should consider doing weights.

Try not to get into the cycle of wanting to be a certain number on the scales - it can become obsessive for some.

If you analyze your diet, make improvements where they can be made (eating wholefoods most of the time - foods that are ingredients rather than foods that have an endless list of ingredients - meat, fish, dairy, fruit, veg, nuts, seeds, herbs, spices, olive oil etc) and stay within your calorie allowance (you can work this out by reading the stickied threads at the top of this forum), then it will fall into place. If you want to achieve that 'toned' look, like above, resistance training added to your dance regime will do wonders.

Check out http://www.stumptuous.com/ for women and weight training.

Thanks everyone for your advice, I think the main thing I have to do is eat more healthily as I already do dance 5/6 times a week but my diet isnt great, I eat far too many take aways due to lack of time in the evenings with study ontop of everything else!

Also this is 100% what Im feeling at the moment, my boyf says I look great but the fact is I cant bring myself to go shopping with my friends because they're all trying on 6/8 and I have to reach for size 12 and it just makes me feel like crap!

But my diet is my problem and I've got to tackle it, this forum on nutrition is brilliant.. I don't think I could do this without it!
