Just looking for opinions on when buying a new slurry tanker 1700 gal is it worth the extra money 1500 euro to galvanise it? How long will painted tankers last on average before they leak?

I think they are, bought a rossmore 1300 gal in 1995, still ok, but it did get a hole at the bottom of the main inlet pipe, probably from stones though. What are you thinking of getting?

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

after finally changing the tanker this year i dont think it is worth the extra money. i still have the old tanker-we bought it new in 1974 yes 1974- it is a star 1500 painted- changed it from a double axle to lgp single axle over the years. it worked on three farms up till the early 00"s. i bought a new 2100 belmac with 23.1r 26 wheels for 9250 incl vat. if i get half as long out of the new tanker ill be happy

a major 1700 gal, used to use an uncles abbey 1100 gal one time seemed to get holes all over the place and be constantly leaking, I have been told the painted tankers have improved greatly in their finish over the last few years

Star were the best slurry tanker ever made, theres nothing on the market of the same quality today.I wouldnt dream of buying a galvanised Tanker personally,if you wash your painted tanker twice or three times a Year it will still look newish in Ten Years time and wont rust at all inside or outside in the first 12 Years or so,you wont see anything back for your €1500 investment for a very long time.

Then theres the problem that not everything on the tank is galvanised, the top and bottom traps, the axles and hubs, the drawbar and some of the quick attach fittings arent galvanised by most manufacturers.

PS Price an Abbey, they're finishing them very well these days.

If you have a compressor on the farm buy the oil spraying attachment and give it a coat with a gallon of oil every time you wash it. Also, suck a gallon of diesel up through the exhaust on a regular basis. Its very good for it and it will preserve the inside of your tanker from corrosion - so Major recommend for their tankers anyway.
