Does Enda think he's won already?

Is it just me or does Enda Kenny think he has won this election already?

He's prancing about as if he's already the Taoiseach despite an election not even been held yet.

For example, tomorrow he's meeting Angela Merkel about "Ireland's financial situation'. http://www.rte.ie/news/2011/0213/politics.html
And apparently she is backing him to win the election.

There's also the ramblings of that bearded fella down in Limerick/back-arse-of-nowhere - "I want to speak to the next leader of this country.." blah blah.

What do you make of this?

That sounds like some beardy fella and Angela Merkel think he's won.

On the meeting Merkel: I remember that constantly happening when Obama and McCain met Gordon Brown, and Sarkozy for that matter before the election.

Not voting Fine Gael, but that's not the most convincing reasoning I've ever heard.

Whether or not he thinks he has it won already all he is doing is making preparations so that if he does become the next Taoiseach he can hit the ground running.

I see exactly where you are coming from.

But I find it slightly irritating and disrespectful to the Irish electorate that he appears to be going about as if he has already won.

And the fact that he won't go on Vincent Browne annoys the fúck out of me - why won't he? Incase of awkward questions? Is that the man who we want leading us; a man who can't face up to tough questions/decisions? - Not me.

Unfortunately he has and the smug fcuk knows it. Lacking a spine for a televised political debate does not bode well for the future. No doubt our IMF/EU overlords will be delighted to have a new Taoiseach, who will be as easily shafted as the last pr!ck.

It's not unusual for the biggest opposition party to travel on a foreign meeting before an election for most countries. And let's face it, Fine Gael will be the biggest party in the upcoming vote bar him going on the next debate show then crying and running off stage.

From talking with some SF members, a meeting of the left is not something to be ruled out. Can't be a bad thing IMO as right wing politics doesn't work.

You are right about the Independants though I think that independants should never hold the balance of power for a Goverment, it leads to parish pump political wrangling and we need national pliticians standing up and putting up to our so called EU partners.

The Left I believe are best positioned to do this.

I can't stand the man, it really is a pity that we only ever have the choice between Fianna Fail and Fine Gael in this country, particulary considering that Gilmore would make a great Taoiseach.

Why is it an excellent move by Kenny?

To me, his not going on TV3 shows that he doesn't have the leadership skills necessary by virtue of his inability to handle pressure. And as we all know, to be any type of leader you need to be able to handle pressure.

Of course, he has/had no obligation to go on any show, but the decision to appear would have gained him at most a bit of exposure and at least some credibility.

Enda did a radio interview on RTE today. He said in the interview that it's half way through the election campaign and he won't be resting on his laurels.

Doesn't sound like he thinks he's won anything.

I have to agree. I heard him on the news and he said that they aren't going to take any notice of the polls, they are going to run a hard campaign and try and win as many seats as possible.

Some people are just waiting on an excuse to pounce on Enda for no reason. I'm not even political but this Enda bashing crap is getting old.

Give the man a chance ffs, wait until he does a televised debate.

I thought he had a contract with the people? If not then he has acted ultra vires and must have his wings clipped asap. If he does indeed have a contract then i would recommend we take a good look at said contract and then and only then decide whether there has been a breach.

Now, ya see, that type of attitude annoys the bollocks out of me.

It's that type of attitude that has this pompous prick acting the way he is. He knows that the vast majority of the electorate are thinking this exact same thing and so they will be inclined to vote Fine Gail in. And what this does is give him a heightened sense of complacency, which just further reinforces the theory in my OP.

Yeah, there was a survey saying that 2/3rds of people preferred cutbacks to taxes and Fine Gael seem to have hit the nail on the head with that compared to Labour.
