Register for JB while working notice?

I've been working for the last 3 years and after enduring some abuse from my boss, I've given my notice and I finish up at the end of this month. Can I now register for JB (with a letter from my company stating my finish date if needs be) or must I wait for the first day of unemployment?

I'm hoping to look for a job in the UK the first week of April and apparently would need to be registered for 4 weeks here before I could transfer my JB to there.

I think if you leave your job voluntary you will not be entitled to dole for 9 weeks.

You can't make a claim until your first day of unemployment.
As gustafo has pointed out, as you are leaving your job of your own accord, you will probably be disqualified for up to 9 weeks.

And you have to be in receipt of Jobseekers Benefit payments for a period of at least 4 weeks before you can transfer the payment abroad, as opposed to just having applied/registered for the JB payment.
