Was up at the crack of dawn yesterday at some red ground I have up in Louth, spent hour and a half waiting for the fog to lift before I gave up
On way home I passed another bit of ground I have only to see all the gates locked up, after a bit of asking around I found out the old boy that lives there passed away 3 weeks ago :(

Anyway breakfast roll on the way home and went off do few jobs I had to do. Decided to go for a walk in the afternoon on piece of fallow ground I have near home. I'd seen a few animals on passing earlier on in the season but nothing for a while. Brought the gf with me as she's been showing quite an interest in stalking.

We walked in off the road and halfway through the second field just as we crested the hill I spied a doe and fawn. dropped to the ground and bellied up to a handy pile of scrub in the middle of the filed. I slowly crawled round the side of it to get a clear shot as there were a lot of rushes everywhere, when I spied another 2 does and 2 fawns.

One of the fawns must have spied me as I bounded into the wood and had the others on edge. The original doe I saw was still grazing away and turned sideways on, head down for a handy neck shot at bout 50 yds :D

In all time from walking in off the road till dropping the doe was no less than ten minutes, doesnt get much handier than that !! Gf came in very handy carrying the rifle on the drag back and being a vetinary nurse student was all hands on when I gralloched her and split the chest :) Just have to get her behind the rifle a bit more and get her on a deer !!

Many thanks to Mauser308 for the use of his cold room as it saved me a couple of hours round trip upto my own.

Nicely done! It's great when you get lucky after a bad morning,it turns the day from a waste into a good day!

Be careful of that girlfriend....Tack would do anything to get his hands on her! :P

After the rut it generally does.
Same with any animal, mating season is when you see most wild animals that are normally illusive

Don't forget to send a condolence card, is the land closed off permanently?

That reamains to be seen, the old boy's nephew stands to inherit it so we'll see how it goes. Won't go bothering him bout it at the moment just for few weeks that are left in the season.
