I nearly hit a canyon on the road into oranmore yesterday, this thing could not be described as a pot hole. If anyone hit it with a bit of speed it wouldn't surprise me if they lost a wheel, the thing was about 8 inches deep.

I bought my 4WD with raised ground clearance, an engine bash plate, uprated springs and stronger shocks and mounts for a reason :D

    (it's a new motorsport, called on-roading :D)

Was west last weekend Leenaun, Maum, Westport and surrounds. The roads can only be described as shocking and in some cases dangerous. On two occasions I thought I sheered a wheel off...

Potholes big enough to dip sheep in .......

Hit a speed bump at 30 mph on a road that was covered in muck, the speed ramp was not marked by signs and the ramp was nearly invisible until i was nearly on top of it. Braked hard just before the ramp but still hit it real hard.

Cant remember where exactly where it was but it was on the back roads near skerries and i was following the gps :o

Bent the tie rod end and the steering pulling to the left now.

    Street View Image

Sign is now missing and the road is covered in muck from work vehicles

    Come on guys.
    Don't be so dramatic.
Even Westport to Leenane is not that bad.
    Take a look at this.
    Some city bypass in Ukraine.

It's well known that last week's top gear wasn't filmed in Albania. It was cheaper to head West.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed the roads seem to have gone to absolute Sh*te in the last couple of months.
Ive never seen the roads as bad as recent times.

It's very hard frost we've had.

The ground was frozen for days for about 30-50 cm down. Frozen ground expands (due to ice having bigger volume than water) an then collapses when it thaws and turns to mush when it rains hard. The road surface then just "floats" on wobbly mud and subsequently breaks up into pieces

The gravel bedding for most of our roads is not deep enough.

Yes and the weather here is definitely worse than that of the alps in France and Austria etc and it's definitely different here every year and sending blokes out with buckets of gravel is better than building them like they do in Germany and Switzerland. What do they know?
