I use Nike + so I know that I have 600 miles on my running shoes. Is it time for a change or are they good for many more miles ?

Depends - if the cushioning is gone, if the support is gone, if your shoes are worn through at any particular points etc then replace them. If they're still going strong though then just keep an eye out and replace when you feel they need it. Most people tend to get about 500 miles out of a pair of shoes though, some more, some less.

This is a big topic, depending on who you listen to. Christopher McDougall's Born to Run will tell you never ti discard a pair of runners, Trainer maufacturer's will tell you to change them as frequent as possible.

Some peoples rule of thumb can be between 300 - 600 miles.

If you starting to feel uncomfortable in old runners, maybe its time to change, ie. flatter footfall, uncomfortable back. and niggles starting to come to your attention.

3 ways to test your shoes !!!
    (1)Torsional twist
    (2)flexion in the upper
    (3)Hell counter

with torsional twist this will test the midsole and support or lack of it
with flexion the shoe should still have a ''springy feel'' and not fold under pressure
with the heel counter it shouldn't collapse under pressure and support the heel and achilles.

In would get between 450-600miles.I find when I push it over the 500mile mark my calves become tight as I wear the shoes on the outside of the heel(maybe because i under pronate also)
other factors which can affect the shoes are the surface you run on and the weight of the runner.
Never store your running shoe near or on a radiator(this affects the foam/eva.If you're running 5 times a week or more it would probably be best to have 2 pairs due to the nature of eva. The foam gets compressed every run and takes about 2-3 days to come back to it's shape, running the next day you would have the same shock absorbency or rebound affect.

Thanks all. They certainly aren't anywhere near worn through. Wear is pretty even. Running surface is mostly dirt track. I am quite big. 6 foot 3 and 15 stone. I think i'll keep them another while. They're Nike Pegasus if that's relevant.
