I'm off to London next weekend and myself and the others are going to a place called Camden Market. I've never heard of it before now so not quite sure what to expect.

Can anyone give any info on it?

What shops are there, whats the prices like etc?

    Thanks for any help.

it's mainly kinda goth/alternative places, but a lot of them sell the same kinda stuff. you'll find a few pretty cool vintage shops there too, and you can get a lot of really nice things on the cheap from them.

    you'll also find Cyberdog there.

check out Psylo while you're there too, they've got some really cool stuff, but it's pretty expensive.

lots of different stalls and things around, so make sure you shop around a lot ;)

There are all sorts of shops! Some independent designers, cheap clothes, lots of goth and punk stuff, cool t-shirts, records, a deadly Japanese shop with all things "kawaii" (cute!), 1950s style new clothes, vintage shops, jewelry, crafts.

There's a great atmosphere in the place, loads of cool places to grab a drink or some food.

Definitely worth a stop by! Are you shopping for anything in particular while you're over there?

Edit: It's so worth going just for Cyberdog!!!

Camden market is a set of stalls where people mostly sell clothes. The area of camden is quite 'hip' and has lots of markets, The Camden Market is the best known, but if you're going to be there, if you head up towards the bridge just past the market and go into the left, you'll get to a market in the Camden Lock, which (in my optiion) is much better, and has a HUGE range of stalls from handmade jewellery to art to leather goods...

I love some of the tshirts ;)

but yeah, it is a really, really cool shop and HAS to be checked out, even if you don't buy anything :D

I didn't think much of it to be honest but then I was only there for a few hours. A lot of it seemed kind of tacky (lots and lots of anime/goth/scene stuff). There are some nice shops but they are fairly pricey. The atmosphere is brilliant though, as is the food.

hmm, there's not a lot of stuff from Cyberdog I think I'd wear, but this skirt is pretty awesome:

still not sure if I could pull it off :o but it's very cool :D

Camden is always my first port of call when I get to London. Love the place. It might be a throw back to my punk days but Camden never fails to entertain me even if I can't find anything to wear (which is a rarity). Great place just to people watch and see what street fashions are on show.
Would also suggest Brick Lane for a visit if you want to stay away from highstreet wallpaper fashions.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

I hate Camden cause it smells of hippy (so shoot me) but I do think Camden Lock has a lot more going on than Camden Market, which leans too much to t-shirts and so on, the shops in the lock are much more original and imaginative and wearable whereas the market is very much buying into the whole camden is awesome thing so the product can be crap. But like I said, I hate Camden. Even when I ordered online from a rockabilly shop (collectif) in Camden I was afraid teh stuff would smell of hippy (ie loads of incense and... stronger incense)! (It didn't. However it only catered for b-cup, so was a bust (oh! freudian slip) in any case)

    Thanks for the replies guys.

Am I right in thinking that it's nothing like the high street (Topshop, A|Wear, River Island etc?).

No its closer to Georges Street Arcade but massive.

    quite right there ;)

I really recommend giving Psylo a look, they're expensive, but extremely well made clothes, and they really are very cool, quite unique. definitely somewhere I'm gonna go back to if I'm in London again.

they don't have them on the website, but when I was there, they had these absolutely amazing looking shoes and boots, really, really awesome and you'll never see anything like them anywhere else. worth popping in to see if they've got them.

have a look at some of their stuff:

If you're in town, there are a few Chinese shops in Neals Yard in Covent Garden - Terminal D and (I think) Madame Butterfly - really cute dresses especially, definitely different, definitely cute, size tends to Asian bit isn't so bad - have got way more there than in Camden but there's at least one similar shop in Camden Lock. There are other nice shops in there (neals yard) as well but not as 'different'.

If you love Topshop, make time to go to Topshop, given how they gouge us here!

I've never been to GSA so have no idea what it's like.

Thanks so much for your help. I'll try get to all these shops, depends on time of course with all that's planned lol.

Here's hoping for a trip to Topshop :D

Also, anyone know what the Primark on Oxford St is like?

Here's hoping for a trip to Topshop :D

Oxfor Circus is chaos - it's good but it's really hard to get service in the shoes and the till queues are painful. If you see one elsewhere (eg Kensington High St) just go there, it'll be easier

Look out for Uniqlo and Cos as well
Also, anyone know what the Primark on Oxford St is like?

My friend who lives in London won't go there - says it's beyond mental. She stocks up in Penneys here. For the prices you really are close to as well off buying here, especially if you can get to Dundrum often (it really does have the best stock)

Cheers. I've asked my dad and he says we're going to Brent Cross, hope the Topshop there is good lol :D

I refuse to buy anything in Topshop here unless it's in the sale as I cannot bear to pay such high prices for clothes lol.

Example: The 'Leigh' jeans (the super soft ones) are €55 (iirc) in TS here, I got a similar pair in a shop in my home town for €5 the only difference is mine aren't as soft, they're slightly lighter in colour and they aren't a brand name (afaik!).

Same things in Topshop there and here are ridiculous - Baxter jeans are £40 (about €49 with VAT etc) and €61. Total conjob, they should be ashamed

Have a great time, sounds like your first time in London? - it's pretty cool. But oh so jammed!

I agree. They have some lovely clothes/shoes, but they aren't worth the money they charge.

Thanks, I've been to London before, when I was a small child, and once in 2007/2008, we went to Oxford St and it was chocker so we didn't look around for long, I haven't been since so hoping to get a few nice things there this time. :D

Ah good old Brent Cross, my old local shopping the centre!!

The Topshop is big but not massive. You also have Miss Selfridge, a pretty decent River Island, Gap, John Lewis, Fenwick, Abercrombie or Hollister (forgive me, I'm not a fan, only like the smell!)

    http://www.brentcross.co.uk/shop/store-directory/
There's a list for you if you search ladies fashion..

Not an amazing spot at all but way better than going into city centre London IMO. Too busy, but if you must, the insanely huge Topshop and Urban Outfitters is about two mins from the Oxford Circus Station (but will take you ten minutes if there are crowds)..so stressful and hot an bothersome!!

Across the road from Brent Cross about a ten min walk is big TKMaxx, Dorothy Perkins and Wallis and Sports Direct.

I am bored of Camden (bar cyberdog for its madness)..in my opinion it is the same stuff repeated and have taken a liking to getting to Upper Street in islington and anywhere around Angel station; vintage, record stores and smaller local shops.

Tip: Comfy shoes and a comfy bag you can shove your shopping into..London gets busy, even Brent Cross!!

Ps apologies if I sound grumpy; the thought alone of shopping in central london stresses me out :)

    MENTAL.

It has three floors, be prepared to queue. Constantly trying to restock but it is so busy so go as early as you can! (easiest to get there by getting off at Marble Arch stop btw). I stock up when I go to Ireland!!

Thanks so much for your help. Will try fit in TKMaxx too. Have heard there's some great bargain's there (in the Blanch store), would the London store have similar bargains?

I love Camden!! I spent years hanging round there when I was younger (way before I moved to Ireland!). You can't leave there without buying something, I know on the face of it it all looks a bit far out but it's not all like that. If you do end up buying then you're guaranteed that practically no one else would have it.

Also don't be afraid to haggle.

Slightly off topic but if you're staying near there then you can walk to London Zoo from Camden, also some pretty good bars and jongleurs comedy club is up by the Lock. Brilliant night because at the end of the comedy they clear the dancefloor and have a bit of a disco.

You would sometimes spot a few famous faces around Camden as well if you're lucky.

I also used to work in Brent Cross but it's changed a lot since I was there. There's a big New Look there and Fenwicks is pretty handy, you can get all sorts of brand names there. Asides from that, there are just the usual shops that you would pretty much get anywhere, it's still exciting to go somewhere different to shop though!

I've only ever seen Revlon and some lesser known brands in the Eastendersy style markets like Roman Road and Petticoat lane..looks dodgy, like what you might have gotten at the Galway Races years ago...never seen any in Camden/Spitlfields/Brick Lane..
