    Fellow airsofters

What's your thoughts on an airsoft site dedicated to stargate, would it be a hit or a miss???

As a fan i think it would be pretty cool but i cant see how it would work. Jaffa staff weapons? The team opposite the SG team, who would they be? Human form replicators,Goa'uld SG teams or rouge NID?

Miss. A niche market of a niche market.

I love Stargate, I really do. And if the site was up to scratch, I would play there a lot...hell I'd help out with what I can. But there is no money in it, and without money there is no investment/return, and thus no site.

Eh...How do you pay for insurance and what not then?

Stargate is grand but very very niche mate.

I'm not being harsh, as I said, I'd love to have it. But you need to be able to generate some returns on it. Unless you own the land, an insurance company and have no trouble with serious investment.

For a site of that scale you would need a lot of props, some very specific rental gear, insurance, plumbing is preferable (but optional).

Think of how much the main prop would cost, the rent/lease on the land, insurance etc. It needs to have continuous investment, which is best sorted through revenue raised from players

I own the land but would I need insurance if I didnt charge and got players to sign a waiver?

If I was you mate, I'd get some advice on it from the IAA. You don't want to be accused of running an 'illegal Goa'uld Training Camp'.

Also, a waiver isnt worth the paper its written on in a non-insured environment. I wouldnt like to know how much you'd get sued for if somebody lost an eye or broke a bone, etc. on your land playing airsoft.

Not a nice situation to get into.

I don't mean to rain on your parade mate but there is a reason why airsoft sites are not free.

I'd say non starter. If you are trying to start a site, the problem with themed ones is the attraction for most players is that you get to dress up in combat gear and slug it out with likeminded opponents. Gear is a large part of it. The office block is a little different but still, swat type outfits are more common with variation. Although full woodland type outfits are not out of place there either.

If you own the land, that's one expense out of the way. You should have insurance though. Just remember what insurance is...it is a safety precaution, just like the glasses/goggles/masks we wear. Having insurance will not stop accidents/incidents happening, however they cover you in that the expense is not your own. I would strongly advise getting good insurance.

Being 100% truthful, I would pay to play at your site. Many others would too. You would need to charge to cover your expenses. But, there are always alternatives. You could set up as a club, and have a yearly fee (in return for free play for members), and allow walk-ons (could be invite only, or book-in only) to generate additional revenue.

What I would advise you to do is to treat it like a business, and try and make as much money from it as you can - with your sights set that high, odds are you'll turn enough to break even :D In all sincerity...always aim higher. It allows room for lowering prices etc.

Maybe a yearly event held in an established site? Like HRTA's events (The Full Brazilian springs to mind). That way fans can rock the Stargate gear and still raise capital by doing regular Skirmishes/Milsim the rest of the weeks in a year. Its not a market that could pull in enough players week in week out, however if it was yearly or twice a year, people would put the event on their calanders and make the effort to get there.

That has its own expense issues such as transporting props...I mean a Stargate event absolutely must have a Stargate...so building that to be able to be transported would be...a pain.

But now you're thinking, and definitely onto the right path :)

Yeah of course, all events have costs. Player Fees would off set that hopefully. And you could build the gate onsite. I'm sure there are plenty of people willing to lend their artistic and creative streaks to help such an event

A stargate themed one-off would possibly work, but even then, no guarantess, an entire site though is too much of a niche.

Good idea, loved the show but the previous comments are right, its too much of a niche. Your best bet is to do a SWAT analysis, forecast budget, talk to the IAA ans some other site owners and get a plan together and open up a site. Get some business going and hold specific themed games on the site, you'll get the best of both worlds, if you have props up most regular players wont mind im sure.

Good luck with the project though, if your near(where you hopping to base??) ill defiantly play or help out if needs be

Good Luck from a friendly neighborhood Sniper
