New 2011 Passat RCD310 / Gateway 5 bluetooth problem

    Hi,

I took delivery of a new model passat comfortline last week:D. The car came with steering mounted phone controls but was not bluetooth enabled. I wanted to fit a bluetooth handsfree kit to the car and was reccommended by a friend to use a Dension Audio Systems "Gateway 5" system (he had recently had one installed one in his 2011 passat highline which came with the RCD510 and the gateway 5 works fine with his audio system).I was with the fitter this morning and he is a bit stumped:rolleyes:. He has fitted the gateway 5 in the car and the radio picks up the incoming phone call and the steering wheel controls also work. Problem is that he cannot get the Multi Function Display located in front of the driver or the RCD 310 radio display to work with the gateway 5. It should allow you to scroll through contacts, see missed calls etc but all the radio shows is the word "Phone". The fitter thinks that maybe Volkswagen may have to alter a setting in the cars computer system. I called the VW garage where the car was bought but they knew less than me:rolleyes:. Anyone any ideas? Thanks for reading

I have gateway 500 in my q7. Have you checked the dension site? It has latest firmwares which you install via a USB stick and also full instructions on their site by car and make? Let me know

Would it be anything to do with your phone. I had terrible problems with some phones on my factory audi system. Some phones wont send contacts, missed calls etc to the car.

Nokia perhaps? Check which Bluetooth profiles your phone supports and then buy an iPhone.

    Thanks for the replies guys.:)

The gateway 5 was checked in situ in the car with the Fitters own Nokia phone, his IPhone 4 and also my own Iphone3 but was the same with all 3 - While the actual bluetooth for the phones works, i.e. you can make and receive calls, the sound will carry through the cars audio system and the steering wheel controls worked, the ability to utilise the Multi Fuction Display in the dashboard or the screen on the RCD310 radio remains unavailable. It still displays the word "phone".

I am still leaning towards the fact that as the car was delivered by VW without a VW bluetooth kit fitted, that there is a box that needs to be unticked in the cars computer system to allow the use of the Gateway with the cars MFD / radio display:rolleyes:. Biggest problem seems to be that noone else seems to have fitted the Gateway 5 to a new model passat with the RCD310 radio yet?

Will let you know if I get the problem sorted and if anyone else has had similar problems, please let me know how you got around the problem. Thanks

My crappy old Nokia work phone works perfectly with all the VAG Bluetooth systems I've used, but it's not unusual for newer / better Nokia's to not have full functionality.

Is there an option on your phone to allow remote SIM (or something like that?). When I had a Passat last year with the full Bluetooth system (RCD510 radio), it took over the SIM of my phone so that nothing worked from the phone itself, you could only control it via the Radio or steering wheel.

Don't think I tried it with my N97 as it's a bit of a long winded process to pair.

Remote access sim profile is your problem. Check this in the dension compatibility list.

    @ Ashleey

Thanks for the heads up re the Denison Compatibility page;). The fitter used his Nokia which was rSAP and still couldn't use the MFD / Radio screen:confused:. Seems though the problem might still involve having to bring the car to my dealer to sort out the problem (with their diagnostic computer) The Denison compatability site only shows 2006 model Passat so I have to assume that nothing has changed with the radio (model RCD 310 was used in 2006 - 2010 model as well) and note no. 3 under my car make and radio model states that " In order to have phone menu on the cluster display you may need to activate the phone function by using diagnostic computer"
In I go to VW on Monday. Hope they know what I am talking about.:(
    Thanks everyone:cool:

    Hi,
I have thew same car and ended up fitting the VW Bury 6090 as part of the deal. Gateway would be better as I would have the display in front of me and steering wheel control.
Did you get this to work or was it the VW computer program that had to be changed?
