Good enough car if a little underpowered, they are quite roomy in the passanger compartment but boot space is a bit limited unless you drop the seats.

If you're gonna get one make sure it's the facelifted version about to be launched in the next month or so. It's much better looking. If I were buying a Pug I'd also go diesel, they're quite good.

Neighbour has one. Most electrics (windows, dash, speedo, fuel indicator, odometer, etc.) stopped working when the car was only a few weeks old. They still don't work 3 years later :D

One window has been open for the last 3 years too :D

Buy a Clio or Fiesta instead imo.

what crap talk this is. pure french bashing. I bet your a great one to add legs to a story with your comment " window has been open for the last 3 years too" this is a load of b.s

on topic. good car. the petrol engine is ok but peugeot are renowned for there diesels. the diesel 308 is supposed to be the one of the most economical cars ever built.

Can't see the upside to them. They don't handle particularly well, they're not nippy, the interior is dull, they're not pretty on the outside and not well equipped.
It'd have to be seriously cheaper than a focus

The 308 petrols can be bought cheap - you would get a base model 08 for about 7500, so they are much cheaper than focus, etc.

The 1.6 diesel is the way to go if you want a 308. 800 miles to a tank of fuel, and 104 euro to tax for the year. I like it to drive - it's very quick. Spec on base model is okay, nothing brilliant. The car's looks are subjective. Personally I like the front but not the rear.

Any opinions on the 1.6 HDI 90 bhp Peugeot 308?

Am I correct in saying it wouldn't have a DPF?

    Good car?

If its pre-2011 then it more than lightly has no dpf....If you see one you like then Pm me the vin/chassis number and i'll let you know if it has or not..:)

The 1.6 hdi are a good engine once there serviced on time and the correct grade of oil is used.

    Cheers Row.

I haven't seen one yet. Lots of 08/09 models in the UK with 90 and 110 bhp engines.

Just wondering what sort of car are they to be honest?

From what I see, the particulate filter is what most complaints seem to be about?

Would they be way off a Focus?

the diesel 308 is supposed to be the one of the most economical cars ever built.

I don't agree with this, my Sister has an 08, 308HDI 90 hp and while it's not a bad car by any means, I don't like the diesel. It's rough and not that economical.

My best is 53 mpg and considering my MK II Prius can do 60-65 mpg in a bigger more powerful car, I don't think it's terrific.

What I really didn't like about it is the 5 speed box, it could have done with a taller 6th gear as it obviously hurts economy. The gear ratios are also wrong. I should be able to do 30 mph in 4th gear but found I had to be in 3rd etc.

Power wise it's got torque but it runs out quickly and you have to change up the gears quickly.

Not a bad car but the engine and gearbox lets it down.

Perhaps the 110 hp would be better, but there is no way I'd have it over the Prius. And this isn't anti diesel talk, it's a genuine review.

They 308's seem to be pretty reliable and don't give much trouble Tbh.
The same 1.6 engine is used in the focus and again once serviced they don't give major problems.

Dpf's don't tend to give trouble until 120k+ mls only the additive will need topping up around 90-120k mls....most garages with decent level diagnostics will be able to topup/reset this for you.

With the 1.6 110 engine the dpfs on the focus/volvos are more expensive as the cat/dpf are all the one unit...With Peugeot/citroen the dpfs can be bought/cleaned separately...:)

If you purchase in the u.k make sure its had a full service history...;)
