I seen it,Great man who built great hardy teams that won all in front of them,Cork could only dream of having a team as good as boylan's meath team.

Pity it completely ignored the 1991 Dublin series.

So tell me, who are the current All Ireland Football champions ?

Who beat Meath in the 1990 Final ?

When did Meath last win Sam ?

Meaths dishonesty got them a flawed leinster title. Ye had to get an outsider to coach ye this year, nobody good enough in meath to do the job.

no,their just been given a break Meath have had Meath Men as managers for decades.

Sure Cork fell apart for about 3 years because they didnt know what manager they wanted,And ye had Sean Og playing, and hes 100% irish.

climb out?,you were suggesting meath were useless because they had a manager from outside the county, this makes not difference,if a manager/footballer is a class act then no matter what county/country their from it don't matter.

Only for the Kerry ref who gave that soft free we would have won two and them one in that period.

Whats the meaning about not 100% irish ? Not a racist comment I hope.

    oh here we go

your missing the point,it wasnt racist and its stupid of you if you think it was,So whatever.

Meaths manager is not from meath,so what!that does not make him any worse a manager, many Irelands best soccer players were english yet we rejoiced in italia 90.

So whatever I couldn't care what you think I meant, keep trying to twist things with your racism stuff.

So what did u mean so by saying Sean Og is not 100% Irish

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,372 ✭✭✭Brenireland

sure what ever you want to think,if you think the worst report my post, end off.

What I was saying was that because Meath's manager is not from meath does not make meath a rubbish footballing county,Look at Sean Og he was brought up in Fiji and not cork and became one of the sports great.

guys i think this is going away from what the thread was started for.The program showed a truly brilliant man who is one of the greats of the game, he built great teams who played hard for sure but have contributed greatly to the game and its history and no matter what anyone thinks you simply cant take that away from the guy, he is a very down to earth guy and a true gentleman

100% agree, sorry for bringing it off topic by bringing up Cork,I should have expected "such" a reaction.

I don't know what the arguments are about here, don't know what Sean Og has to do with this, can't believe that a certain 2 Kildare men weren't mentioned before Sean Og :D

I watched the show earlier, I enjoyed it and with always with these programs unless you are from the county a lot of topics would be very grating for people from other areas affected by it. For me I can't believe he didn't mention the division 2 final against Clare that was played in Tuam in Feb 92 when Mick Lyons should have been jailed (I will admit he won the match for them), but I wont' go on about it :D

I think your mixing me up with someone else, I said no such thing.
I'm a neutral here, but I would always have a soft spot for Meath football.
I like how they play it(Generally)! In fact outside of Meath I often think they didn't get enough credit for producing some of the classiest players ever to wear a county jersey.
But to steer back on topic, I enjoyed the documentary hugely. Boylan is a legend. One of the all time great managers.

yeah have to agree, The man himself said he felt hurt at the time and probably still is by people covering over his teams success and indeed the ability of the players and always focusing on the negative things,it was a different game then and more physicality was permitted by refs. I guess Meath just mastered that element of the game better then other teams at the time but you cant blame a manager for working to the strengths of his team they had there fair share of sending offs by the looks of the program and still managed to gain success. It was something like when Tyrone came out with the Blanket defence....got lots of criticism for that but they were within the rules it was a strength they had and worked to and got success.Have to say he did acknowledge that Cork were a better team in the final, and that great Laois team, all and all i thought he gave a frank and even handed interview which is something i really enjoyed

You are 100% correct, I was talking about the match today with my father. We both agreed that Meath beating us that day led to Clare winning 2 All-Irelands
