New feature on the ICBF website where you can order tests on your youngstock, no milking cows yet. Two different tests 54k for €150 and 3k for €50 euro. Anyone know how detailed the result are? Are you going to use it?

What do you think the advantages would be of having it done?
maybe if i was in the business of selling bulls i consider it other than that i can't see any other advantage in doing it.

I was looking forward to this technology but I have my doubts now. If we are putting so much faith in Genomics why can’t we sent up samples from any animal regardless of pedigree, from my youngstock, only heifers from proven AI bulls can be done with the 3k test.
I would like to test some of my maidens as they are from a stockbull with a minus EBI but a great pedigree and this years heifers from him are smashing, however they can only be tested 54K at €150

Currently cows with own performance are not eligible for a genomic evaluation as further research is required to integrate this information – I taught the DNA would tell us how they would perform

DNA testing will only give a broad indication of the potential of the animal. Until the tests are further refined and proven then the reliability will be low for all results but it is a further step in the right direction
