Hi folks, I wonder if anyone could help me with this? I came across this cable, it is a regular 3-pin plug on one side, and this connection on the other end (sorry for the bad quality of the pictures, my camera-phone isn't great):

I have no idea what it is, but i wouldn't like to throw it out and realise later that it was for something i need, or even if i don't need it, it might be something i could hand over to someone on the free section of adverts if its any good to anyone else.

    so, does anyone recognise this?

Looks like the power cable for my printer but mine only has the bottom row of connectors. Cable from old printer maybe.

is it going through a power adaptor (large block) at any point?

Looks very similar to the power cable for my HP all-in-one

hmm thanks for the feedback all. it doesn't go into any sort of adapter (that i know of, but i just came across it in work). there are no markings on it other than 'coc10' and 'linetek' written on it, but googling produced nothing.

ah well to the recycling bin it goes methinks. thanks anyway everyone

It's a proprietary power cable for... something.

    Any old/unused equipment nearby?
If not, it's likely that the device it used to power is long since gone and this cable is now surplus to requirements.

I'd be inclined to hang onto it though, and add it to my fine collection of obsolete and obscure cables.
Some day, it may just be useful. Maybe :D

Its for older 6-8 way plug boards(socket extension). Wouldn't worry about it, since I haven't seen any with those connectors sold in eight years.

    It's a power cord:

    PWR-1081-03

3 FOOT BLACK LAPTOP POWER CORD WITH 5 FEMALE HOLES-DELL CABLE #D7072-(two holes are on top with three holes on the bottom, all at 45 degrees from each other).

I'm guessing you don't have the weird 3 pin plug at the other end, but definitely the other end matches. You version may be the EU version of the same type. God knows what it was originally for!

I hope this satisfies your curiosity! :)

    Well spotted

    Excellent detective work!

It's likely the power cord for a Dell laptop power supply, I suspect.

Any idea as to why it has five pins? Trying to think what the extra two are for is driving me mad.

Could go to different transformers in the laptop. Weird set up.

    Could be 2xLive, 2xNeutral, 1xEarth.

1 live and neutral going to A) motherboard power B)screen invertor power.

    Just a guess.

    Its a Dell D7072, for the Lattitude D500, D600 & D800

Actually, thinking about it, that probably plugs INTO an external PSU.

So, I would definitely say that serves very little purpose other than to enforce the use of the correct cable with the PSU - i.e force you to buy an exact replacement.

Of course, this will be sold as 'to ensure parts up to Dell's standards are used with our power supplies'.

But probably the same pinout IMO 2xlive, 2xNeutral, 1x Earth.

Hi there i have randomly stumbled across this thread while searching for pinout to this cable.
Apparently this cable is from dell charger, where three live pins on the are for AC and the other two are supposed to be for 12V DC.
