Are the items ordered from the local store, or a warehouse located elsewhere. If from a local store, do they tend to have the stock levels accurately calculated so you don't order something that isn't there?

Local stores. They come with a list of your order. If something you order isnt available they either put down that its not there and refund the money to you or they make a replacement eg a different brand etc. You can refuse to take the replacement and you will be refunded.

Thanks man, does the website give no implication of whether the item is in stock or not?

If its on the website it should be in stock, the shopping is picked from the floor between 4am and 2pm so there is a good chance you will get the item.
