Delonghi Icona - Basket width

Hey - Quick question that i'm hoping someone can help me with.
I want to order online today a Tamper for my Delonghi Icona Pump espresso machine but stupidly I forgot to measure the basket width before I left home this morning. (I am now tied to the desk in work :()

Would anyone know if these commercial espresso machine baskets would generally be around the 53mm or 58mm?

Would it make more sense to play it safe and just order the 53 mm - or does the width play a big role in getting a good tamp?

I have searched the internet far and wide to find specs on the machine - but it appears this is not something they consider a selling point(even on their own website!)

Or should I be patient and just wait till I get home...

    Thanks!

definitely wait to order - you want your tamper to be as close to the width of the basket as possible.

I've the same machine and the same problem finding the proper size tamper. What size did you eventually go for?

I fired off an email to Delongli about 30 mins ago asking what size they recommend I'll post the answer when they get back to me.

A question if I might. How do you find the steam wand, personally I find it on the small side if you are only making one coffee. I wonder if you could add an attachment?

As promised here's the reply I received from DeLonghi:
The tamper on the Icona measures 49mm.
I'm not really satisfied with the answer as the attached tamper seems to be way to small for the basket. Note they've only stated the size of the supplied tamper

Hey - Sorry for not getting back sooner and cheers for following up with Delonghi.

I never got around to buying the tamper after the last post as february took its toll on the bank balance :( but I had went home to measure and the basket width that I can see is close to 53 mm.

I am wary now that you say Delonghi have confirmed it as 49mm but as you say the plastic attachment is far too small.

I am planning to make it the first purchase of next month and will let you know how I get on.

Sorry that is not much help :(
