Do you think the world will end in 2012?

Having thought about this it doesn't fit in the conspiracy theory forum as there's no conspiring, just an odd question.

I was in an argument recently with a group of mates in which most of them do believe it will end in 2012.

Reasons being there has been an increasing amount of natural disasters (Australia, 1 side of fire, the other underwater)
Economic meltdown, governments refusing to step down etc, water shortages all over the world.. Oil shortages, oil prices etc.

IMO there has always been massive natural disasters, governments ousted, water shortages.. There just wasn't globalized news coverage of it all, so people didn't really know about it.

So, simple question, do you think the world will end in 2012 or not?

Hopefully it will end sooner, so I won't have to see any more 2012 apocalyptic threads.

Nope. I agree that there are an increasing number of natural disasters, but nothing to suggest the world will end next year.
if the world does end, it won't be a natural disaster. And it won't end, humanity just be wiped out.
    But I doubt it.

    Mayans Prophecies

Mayans were good at two things according to history channel!
Building highly accurate astrological equipment out of stone and
    Sacrificing Virgins.

Apparently Thousands of years ago they managed to calculate the length of the lunar moon as 329.53020 days, only 34 seconds out from what our scientists say.
The Mayan calendar predicts that the Earth will end on December 21, 2012. Given that they were pretty close to the mark with the lunar cycle, it's likely they've got the end of the world right as well?
The Sun (Or what I like to call the problem we have with Sun)
So they say Solar experts from around the world monitoring the sun have made a discovery: our sun is in a bit of bother. The energy output of the sun is, like most things in nature, cyclic, and it's supposed to be in the middle of a period of relative stability. However, recent solar storms have been bombarding the Earth with so much radiation energy, it's been knocking out power grids and destroying satellites. This activity is predicted to get worse, and calculations suggest it'll reach its deadly peak sometime in 2012..

    The Atom Smasher
Scientists in Europe have been building the world's largest particle accelerator. (Dan Brown wrote about this in Digital Fortress ) So Basically it’s a 27km tunnel designed to smash atoms together to find out what makes the Universe tick. However, the mega-gadget has caused serious concern, with some scientists suggesting that it's properly even a bad idea to turn it on in the first place. They're predicting all manner of deadly results, including mini black holes. So when this machine is fired up for its first serious experiment in 2012, the world could be crushed into a super-dense blob the size of a basketball.

The Bible says...(My particular favourite ,
Interpretations of the Christian Bible reveal that the date for Armageddon, the final battle between Good and Evil, has been set down for 2012.
The I Ching, also known as the Chinese book of Changes, says the same thing, as do various sections of the Hindu teachings.

    Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone is sitting on top of the world's biggest volcano, and geological experts are beginning to get nervous sweats. The Yellowstone volcano has a pattern of erupting every 650,000 years or so, and we're many years overdue for an explosion that will fill the atmosphere with ash, blocking the sun and plunging the Earth into a frozen winter that could last up to 15,000 years. The pressure under the Yellowstone is building steadily, and geologists have set 2012 as a likely date for the big bang. There was mini eruptions in Feb this year.

    The Physicists
This one's case of bog-simple maths mathematics. I’m really crap at maths so I don’t like this one. Physicists at Berekely Uni have been crunching the numbers. and they've determined that the Earth is well overdue for a major catastrophic event. Even worse, they're claiming their calculations prove, that we're all going to die, very soon - while also saying their prediction comes with a certainty of 99 percent- and 2012 just happens to be the best guess as to when it occurs.

(This is another freaky one the poles are shifting and have shifted before millions years ago)
Earth is surrounded by a magnetic field that sheilds us from most of the sun's radiation. Al gore said so. What you might not know is that the magnetic poles we call north and south have a nasty habit of swapping places every 750,000 years or so - and right now we're about 30,000 years overdue. Scientists have noted that the poles are drifting apart roughly 20-30kms each year, much faster than ever before, which points to a pole-shift being right around the corner. While the pole shift is underway, the magnetic field is disrupted and will eventually disappear, sometimes for up to 100 years. The result is enough UV outdoors to crisp your skin in seconds, killing everything it touches.

What exactly is supposed to happen when the supposed date comes?

Personally, I'm looking forward to the nutters acting crazy leading up to "the end". That being said, I'm sure there's a cult somewhere preparing for a mass suicide job..............probably America.

no, and as soon as that date goes by the same fking idiots talking about this will start babbling on about the next date..

Newton said the world will end in 2060, so the nuts can hang onto that one.

The whole notion of the end of the world in 2012 is erroneous. What it actually referrs to is the end of a calendar cycle which some have interpreted as the end of the old world and the beginning of the new. The 'new age' theory is that it is the date a spiritual transformation or rebirth. The dawn of a new era.

    Of course, it's all bullshit.

However, I'd like to see a shift in the way we think and act in the world. Because currently, the world has never been more unequal, and that has to change. And the change will only happen if all the rules on things like politics and ethics are completely rewritten.

    what is a lunar moon?
just because thay could calculat what ill assume to be a cycle does not mean the can predict the future

At worst, if Earth's resources get depleted, natural disasters increase, and governments worldwide fall, I think what may happen is we get "rebooted" back to the Dark Ages, like the ending of the video game
    Deus Ex
not neccessarily the "world ending", where
the world blows up, a la the end of the movie Knowing
    .

I also don't subscribe to the theory that the current revolts in Tunisia, Egypt, etc are going to spread worldwide and cause a global communist/facist/totalitarian/One World Government state to be formed.

well the mayan calculations, the pharoahs calculations and signs in stonehenge, ancient astrologists all point to december 21, 2012 as a major event day - where the world will change in some way shape or form. thats not to say it won't be around any longer.
