    underrated or self-indulgent?

I say the former, some trendy friends say the latter, we have constant arguments about it and then I stick on Hotellounge (Be the death of me) and we agree I was right

    Do you agree?

and what's the latest on them?

Never got into them fully, but definately had an interest in them. Some of their music is excellant. Worst Case Scenario should be up there with one of the greatest debuts. In a Bar.. is a bit more darker. The Ideal Crash was one of my favourite albums for 2 years. Then I bought Pocket Revolution. I really gave it a try. Listened to it plenty. But there were only about 4 songs that I had any desire to listen to. So my relationship with Deus kinda petered out then. I just see now that they had another album in 2008 - Vantage Point. Is it any good.

I might get back on the band wagon again.

Both. First two albums are amazing. Hit and miss after that.

    My opinion.

The three worst bands of all time

    1 Sigur Ros
    2 dEUS
    3 Gus Gus

They are an amazing band (probably my favourite) and great live. Worst Case Scenario is probably still the best, but The Ideal Crash definitely runs it close. If you were to buy one other album get that.
Pocket Revolution is pretty decent, but Vantage Point was not particularly good with the exception of 1-2 songs.
They still write great tunes, and Barman has a fantastic voice. I guess the one thing they've lost over the years is the ability to surprise and innovate. They haven't had any new ideas since The Ideal Crash...

But they are still great and I will be buying the next album. Mediocre dEUS beats most of what's out there at the moment.

dEUS are great. I got in to them via No Disco and buying Ideal Crash when it came out. It is a fantastic album. I got into the older stuff after that.

I really liked Pocket Revolution and though I haven't listened to Vantage Point as much it is a good album. It's a calmer and less experimental dEUS, very melodical. I look forward to the new album and them returning to play.

In a bar, under the sea is an incredible record. Saw them on a small mini tour they did here back in 97 or 98 (mighta even been 99?) they really have the chops live too.

also, I dont really think you can like Arcade Fire without liking dEUS..they owe dEUS a lot

Hells no, I'm a big Millionaire fan, Zita Swoon are excellent but are like marmite ...... not to everyone's taste.

Soulwax are Belgian too, but all these bands have had members in one or anothers band at some point lol.

Big dEUS fan , also got into them via no disco, when they showed the roses video. In a Bar is by far my favorite. They can be a difficult band I have never instantly loved or even liked their stuff, it's always grown on me over time. Their stuff has changed a lot over time but not to the extremes bands like radiohead for example have, no theres an overrated and self indulgent band :D

99 in the olympia? Or 97 in Whelens ? Both were excellent gigs, was disappointed with them in the Ambassador and to a lesser extent in Tripod last time.

Wasnt Whelans, it was the Village (or Mono as it was at the time) but it was round that period..gig in Belfasts empire the night after..the frames played support both nights..great gigs..

Frames supported them in the olympia when I saw them there, they had this weird video thing on between bands from what I remember.

God I love this band. Can't rave enough about them. Just seen them live the other day and it's renewed my interest in them.

I got into them from seeing Suds n Soda on MTV many moons ago and buying Worst Case Scenario and playing it to death. It really was the soundtrack of my youth (corny, sorry)

I think I may have heard bad reviews for the second album and forgot about them but still loved WCS.
Fast forward many many years later I came across a video for The Architect which I loved, then looked up their other videos. Came across For the Roses, which knocked my socks off. Bought In a Bar Under the Sea, which is absolutely amazing and my fave dEUS album (also on my desert album top 5). The Ideal Crash has some great tunes but I love the randomness and freedom of Bar. I don't think Pocket Revolution was that great but after hearing Bad Timing live, I am giving it another shot.

I've just ordered their last 2 albums on the strength of the gig.

My only gripe is I wasn't as into them when I was younger. I would have killed to see them play with Stef in their crazy youth!

Their sound has definitely tamed over the years and I read an interview with Tom where he really wants to create pop music. Ok they're older now and they can still write great tunes but I love 'weird' dEUS.
Still as someone said 'mediocre' dEUS is better than most good bands.

I was extremely disappointed by their gig there in the Academy. They just didn't seem too into it themselves.

Extremely let down by the song selection. I know they've a new album to sell out but I never expected to hear so much of it. Their encore songs were way too mellow and to finish with Serpentine was the definition of an anticlimax.

    Where was Suds and Soda????

Ya I thought it was strange ending with Serpentine. I love that song but you usually end a gig on a Big Gun song. Do dEUS still sing Suds n Soda live? Stef did all the screaming in that song and he's gone and I can't imagine one of the other members wanting to ruin their vocal chords by singing it!*

But definitely another 40-60 mins wouldn't have gone amiss. Would have loved to have heard some stuff from WCS and the Zea EP.

*Edit: well not so much ruin their vocal chords. For some reason I thought he screamed 'Friday' but he doesn't. But it's a pretty hard song to sing anyway!

They still do Suds and Soda with the new incarnation of dEUS and Mauo sings it and he does it justice. They don't seem to be playing it on this tour though which is a pity.

The setlist had Easy from the new album down as the last song but they opted for Serpentine which was strange.

Did u manage to get hold of a setlist Homer? Or could u see it from the front.
Really annoyed I couldn't get one - the roadies took them away.
