This kind of post comes up regularly. And the answer is always the same. The best way to get the best quote is to get the phone book out and ring around to as many insurance companies and brokers to get the best quote.

Online quotes are worth checking out, but seeing that you're on a Learner Permit, the quotes might be a bit crazy.

30 year old woman or not, insuring a provisional driver on a 1.8 BMW is not gonna be cheap.

Nobody wanting to preserve their dignity would buy a 1.8L BMW anyway.

Each to their own - I personally love it & there is a bit of a story behind it..
My Dad passed away suddenly a couple of mths ago & always knew I wanted one so it is a present to me from him & Mum so I suppose you could say there is a very emotional attachment associated with the car.

May just look at getting my DH insured & being a named driver until I get the full licence. probably the most cost effective way to do it.

I would start with AXA, but that's just because I got my insurance there cheap recently. I don't know what they think of prov licence.

I'm sick of reading this crap on here TBH, not everyone can afford to run a 6 cyl petrol.

    OP are you sure its a 1.8? The 318i was a 1.9L and 2.0L in E46 and I think the E90 is a 2.0L as well.

Just to say im 31, i have 4 years no claims i drive a yaris 99, 1lt and my insurance quote is 414. to me that's dear so 1.8 and on a provisional licence, its gonna be costly.

Defo a 1.8 well at 1796 & not putting pics up of the car to get more abuse:)

    Its a 1995

That rules out allianz, Aviva a 10% discount for new customers as does allianz but not sure if aviva insures cars over 15 years old.

Ended up getting covered with Aviva for €1350 which is grand as includes Breakdown cover & Windscreen cover...

That's still pretty expensive for a 30 yo female. I suppose the lack of ncb and learners permit didn't help. Did you try brokers like 123.ie and insure.ie?
