Anyone know if the Saab 9-5 or volvo s80 biofuels are any good?

I know you wont be running them on BioFuel in Ireland (and afaik they take a BHP hit on regular fuel) any time soon.

Had 93 and 95 auto biofuels. 93 is far better car. 95 auto is heavy on petrol. As far as I know ethanol won't be sold much longer. If your going for saab I would say go diesel. There are good deal on them to be got.

I had a 9-3 1.8t Bio Fuel over night, and the fuel consumption on that was scary. Steady 100km/h on the motorway and it was showing around 11 L/100km. Average around town was somewhere near 23! Also, disappointing amount of power under foot for 180bhp (it was running on E85 at the time).

I had a breif spin in a V70 2.0i FF which wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Pretty similar to driving a 1.8i V50. Isn't going to set the world on fire, but enough to get it going. No idea on fuel consumption as it was only about 3 miles.

I wouldn't consider an ethanol powered car unless it's really, really cheap - like €5,000 + cheaper than a diesel equivalent.

The Volvo's need servicing every 10,000km (20,000 for the normal petrol's), not sure about the Saab's. That can certainly add up if you are doing big enough mileage.

Thanks guys, there doesn't seem to be reliability issues tho? My father was considering a 07 saab 9-5 biofuel, so maybe not a good idea judging by some of the comments.

I never had reliability issues with eithercar. But i would say the 93is a better car. Just way up the running costs.
