    Hi everyone,

I'm in the middle of a degree in Midwifery in TCD at the moment. I'm thoroughly enjoying it but I have to admit that I'm not finding it very challenging. I love being on Clinical Placement, the hospital feels like home, like where I'm meant to be.

So I'm thinking about going for Grad Med when I'm finished. I've been doing a bit of research and it seems that it would be considerably cheaper to study in the U.K. Has anyone here made the move?

Also because of the field I'm in at the moment I aspire to specialise in Obstetrics, does anyone know how long that would take?

    Thank you :)

UK bought fees back in a month or so ago its 9000 £ per year or so maybe a bit more, which is in line with the 13000 euro they charge here. good luck with your future and remember, midwives do alot of important work too

It won't be any more than £9000 (that's the upper limit, some places will be less), NHS bursary not affected as of yet.

They haven't just brought back fees btw, fees that you could take a loan out for have been here since 2006 (and there were smaller fees before that as well). I'm paying around 3 grand a year.

You can progress a long way in the field of Midwifery and really challenge yourself if you put your mind to it!

You can become a Clinical Midwife Specialist, Nurse/Midwife prescribing, get involved in research, there are lots of options open to you. You could also establish yourself as an independant midwife in the long run which could be really challenging!

It could be years before you are able to specialise in obstetrics, and alot more expense I'd imagine!

Good luck in whatever you decide to do :)
