Scumbags on the Luas

I've just paid for a trip on the Luas and shown my ticket when requested (as I always do) ao I'm a bit peeved with what I've just seen. A group of drunk teenagers refused to produce tickets and threatened to "f*** the Luas inspectors of the Luas this time" I was fully expecting them to be appropriately delt with but instead they were left be and the inspectors just left. Do Luas inspectors have any powers to deal with this sort of abuse? Surly this will just encourage little scumbags to do it again?

The inspectors are probablly told to leave it and contact the security men hired by luas, who are very big burly men wearing an all black uniform, trained to deal with these kind of people

Ah the Luas, if you're quiet and don't cause trouble but cannot produce your ticket you get fined. Fair enough, no issues there

If you are aggressive and likely to kick off, you are asked to leave and just get the next tram

Sorry if this thread comes up too often, I was his shocked that nothing was done. Was expecting them to call some form of security, but they didn't and just let them be.

I really feel for the Luas customer service personnel. I'd hate to be dealing with the scum on the red line. Having to be a passenger on the same tram is bad enough without having to enter into discussion with them.

They have fancy new posters at all stops now with pictures of security and Gardai on them. They mean nothing though. The scum still run wild on the line and don't care if they're seen on cctv, caught by security, or caught without a ticket.

Doesn't that line close after 7pm weeknights, 2pm Saturdays, and closed all day Sunday?

The Traffic Corps should be rebranded to Transport Police and its remit extended to cover the likes of the Luas, trains and buses.

No additional resources needed (in fact don't even need as many cars then :D) and the Corps reputation would be greatly improved if people saw them out in the community dealing with scumbags rather than just sitting behind speed guns collecting revenue.

that actually is a good idea. Altough you might have trouble finding them. I drive across the country , approx 2k a week and I have seen 3 TC cars on the roads since the introduction of the mobile cameras.

Twice was in a garage getting food and the other time was sitting on a motorway ramp doing an impression of ted asleep. I sh*t you not.

Always have your camera phone on standby. I GUARANTEE you video (still or moving) is the best way to make action happen - better even than calling Joe Duffy.

    Why, just this last week...
CBC News - Toronto - TTC bus driver pictured texting and driving
    then...
TTC to passengers: Don’t snap texting drivers
    then...
Two TTC bus drivers photographed texting on the job
    and finally...
    Toronto Transit Commission statement

Basically, riders here have cottoned on that telephoned complaints are ignored and written ones swept under the rug. Stick it on the internet and first the Commission will claim it's an isolated incident and stop with the pesky citizen journalism but then once enough are posted it's a handbrake turn towards taking it seriously.

For the benefit of the OP, he might like to read my Luas experiences from one evening last July.

Was on a tram to Newcastle airport one day and some people got on and caused a bit of trouble.

Driver came on the PA and announced that the police had been called and the tram wouldn't move til they got off.

Five seconds later the tram was moving sans the morons.

Trained to fight militias or similar, generally... the majority of STT staff are ex-military from Balkan countries.

When they're available, they're ruthlessly effective. There was a drunken/drugged girl abusing people on Connolly P4 who didn't give her a cigarette a few months ago, I told the Irish Rail staff member at the barriers, and by the time I'd left the station she was being forcibly removed by two STT lads. The same company do the Luas, and if Veoila are let know of a problem, they'll be dispatched.

I have seen the same "security" staff do nothing on more than one occasion when people were drunk and being a nuiscance on the luas and on one occasion when a drug addict was fast asleep at the back of the tram they went down shook him and walked off and got off at heuston station.

these "security" are only there to protect Veolias property not their passengers! had that Junkie pissed himself he no doubt would have been thrown off the tram but he posed no threat to the pockets of Veolia so was not a problem.

The STT guys are very effective. There has been a substantial reduction as far as I can see in recent times in poor behaviour at Jervis anyway.
