I am interested in a 37W LED backlit TV and have identified the LG 37LE4500 at €499 from Pixmania.
    http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/7287253/art/lg/37le4500-led-television.html

    - from other comments here as a modern LG it seems likely to be Saorview compliant (although I will initially be using it on UPC), is this true?

    - has anyone any idea of any retail stores that sell this anywhere on the island within striking distance of the online price (I can't get the stockist listing on the LG website to work)? Pixmania worries me slightly.

    Any observations welcome.

Pixmania = Currys / PC World.

The LED screens if skinny need external amp as speakers are too skinny. CFL LG is very good.

Reviews of this do mention the speakers not being very loud.
Currys UK have it, but it would be €120 (25%) more than Pixmania.ie delivered.

Yes, inexplicably Currys are far more expensive that pixmania. Iv'e suggested to them that they are likely to end up only being Pixmania :)

We got the 42" LG 42LD450 in Currys for 460 I think (gone up now perhaps). It's very good. With screen adjusted properly it looks better than the LED versions in Showroom, but we have it in a corner, not on a wall, which is the prime reason for LED. Only the 1K+ LED sets have actually better & brighter colour.

One complaint with the recent set of LGs is that they all have the USB video playback option nobbled. The Samsung models do not have this restriction.

I got my parents an LG42LD450 for Xmas and managed to over-ride the nobbled USB feature last week. Instructions shown below..

Using a One-for-all remote, press the magic button once, then enter 00018. This is not the same as programming it for a particular device.. i.e. you do not press the button for several seconds to see the double-blink etc. A single press, followed by a 5-digit value is a common non-published URC feature that can be used to send specific IR codes.

This code sends the required RC signal to bring up the service menu password prompt displayed as [****]. Using the LG remote, enter 0413. Then on the service menu, use the up/down arrows to scroll to option 3, press OK, then to the DIVX option, using the left-right bottons to set it to 1.. and you've enabled video playback.

if you have laptop or PC with serial port or USB to Serial adaptor, but no one-for-all

    Works fine.
