Stupid question to some of you maybe but ive an 3 door 1.5 petrol Almera S 2004 reg.

it has drum back brakes and disc front brakes.

how do i know or find out if it is fitted with ABS??? I thought it had ABS but not so sure now..... Id a small accident on saturday when i hit the brakes it just locked up there was no vibration (that I can recall) of the ABS hammering on and off and I am worried that i may have ABS and also have a problem with it...

There will be a yellow ABS warning light when you start the car.
It goes out after a second or so with the other lights.

When you brake on slippery surface you should feel a pulsating sensation through the brake pedal.

Find a safe place, make sure there's no one behind you, and just slam on the brakes. If you feel vibration on your foot - then ABS is working properly.
If your car starts sliding, then your ABS is broken or your don't have it.

Take it to an open area (wet surface if possible) and stand on the brakes. You will then know.

The light is the easiest way to check, it's not always yellow. Of course it's not a great way as ABS may not be on some models even though there is a place for the light on the dash. Under bonnet check for ABS pump is a good way, it's a chunky yoke so easy to find.

Stand on the brake test if all else fails :)

Would I be right in saying that cars with ABS have disc brakes all round?

If the wheels locked up then its unlikely you have it - in which case, stomping on the brakes in an emergency isn't the best course of action...

ABS was an optional extra on the Almera back in 2004.

If you have abs and your wheels locked up then you have a problem in which the abs light on the dash should stay on
