Scratches on the door

I have got a few scratches on the doors on the driver's side. They are fairly bad. I had full service for the car and the garage spray something on the scratches which made it nice (and did not charge me for that!:D). but now, with the rain, the rust is coming out a bit again.

    Questions:
    1. I have to take the car to NCT, would they fail me because of the little rust on the door?

    2. What do I need to buy and do with the scratches? What kind of spray and usually how much?

    THANKS?

    1. No, unless it's structural or has sharp edges i.e. a hole in your door.

    2. Touch up kit from halfords if they have it? The last one i got was about €12 from main dealer, colour, clear coat and prep kit.

    Pics?

As david said, scratches alone won't fail unless they're so bad they're dangerous somehow.

Guys, photos uploaded. Please help have a look.
Are they serious? Can the Touch up kit help remove them? million tks!

Those touch up kits just don't work. See my signature for a tutorial on how scratches should actually be tackled.

Your damage is actually quite bad, you've a very hard flaking edge on the damaged paint, rust underneath and no doubt contour damage on the door itself. Unless you have the skills to do the job, bring it to a bodyshop, or the rust will spread. Regardless, now that your paint has been damaged so badly, more is going to fall off as time goes on, and the first lick of a power washer will demolish the area around the scratch.

hiya, just a quick update. the car passed the NCT. the morning before NCT, i took it to the garage to have a quick check and they told me they had a quick spray on the doors (but still can see the scratches clearly though).

tks for all you guys' advice. will look into the bodywork later if i wanna keep the car for longer time.
