I'm 18 in college and just hate the course I'm at, I've no interest in it at all anymore, I tried to like but I just can't. What i was thinking is doing a metal fabrication apprenticeship with FAS but I don't know if I really should. Fabrication is something I really want to do and theres an engineering factory less than 2 miles away where I could get the apprenticeship seeing as I already excepted in there for summer work. So is it worth going to FAS or should I stay in college???

Well you are still very young, Do what makes you happy. Perhaps there is another course in college that you might enjoy more readily. I have plenty of friends that dispised my engineering course and went on to enjoy sciences or business courses after their first semester in engineering.

College qualifications can be percieved as quite important in the current climate, But if you are sure you might be able to get some sort of apprenticeship coupled with a FAS qualifaction why not.

Just dont jump yet, do your research first and make an informed decision.

    Best of luck either way.

Cheers for that, I just don't think college is the place for me I was always better at practical subjects in school, I thought engineering would be a practical course but it's not as practical as I imagined. I've two weeks to make up my mind anyway so I'll have a good think about it because I can't stand doing something I don't have any interest to do.

Incidently what engineering are you doing? and where?

Its not all theory, but alot of it is. Even if you do a FAS course, maths will come into play. Have a good look into what is involved curriculum wise in the FAS alternative. But as I say youve many years to change your mind again. Its never now or never. ;)

Mechanical and Renewable in Athlone like it's a grand course but it's not for me! I know what ya mean maths always comes into play in engineering but I don't mind whats needed for fabrication. I can always try college again in a few years when I've a much more mature attitude towards it.
