k im wondering if anyone would have an idea of where i could get the cheapest insurance on a 00 celica vvtli 190 jap import. Im only 21 have full licence for about 8 months now . 1 year full no claims and 1 year named no claims. 2 penalty points. best quote i could find was 1600 from quinn which i still think is a little steep:D:D:D

    1600 seems very reasonable.

Quinn wont insure me on an mx5, 25 with 2year ncb. I have to be 30.

Wont they ?? That seems a bit odd . Might be due to it being a convertible soft top hence less structural safety

I'm 19, paid about that on a fiesta, I'd bite the hands of em for that quite tbh

If you can get a UK T-Sport it will be cheaper, insurance companies rate the Jap Imports highest on account of their ease to steal.

    That's pretty good.
That's almost exactly what I was paying 2 + 1/2 years ago on a 190 Celica when I was 22 and I had 2 yrs NCB at that stage.

My sister also had a VVTLi Celica at the very same time as me. She was a few years older than me at the time and when her renewal came in, it actually went up.

The reason they gave was that the car had gone up a grade or two in the risk assessment or something to that effect.

So, 1600 isn't that bad really!

I was 23 with 2 ncb m8, when i called quinn askibg for qoute on mx5, they told me same story. So then i just bought mx5, called quinn and said that i want to update details on my policy as i bought new car, its mx5 bla bla. The answer was: okay, it will be 200 eu extra on your policy, is that okay....

Op, you should be happy as hell to get such a great qoute, trust me, i know about insurong performamce cars.

OP that's an excellent quote, considering your age, car and points.

Is it possible to get a quote saying "I've placed a deposit on a different car, please quote me" and then not follow through on it?

As in, if AXA (my current insurer) said they wouldn't insure me on a Honda S2000, could I call up, say I'd put a deposit on one, and in all likelyhood, receive a quote?

Yes, just say your not happy with that quote and you'll get back to them as to whether you want to transfer the cover to the new car.

Thats a cracking quote. I was paying more than that mid 90's on a 1.0 Corsa at your age

Great quote. Cheapest I could get on a VVTi was 2000 about a year ago with FBD. 23, 1 years NCB, no points and 3 years named driving experience. Bite their hands off! Couldnt get a quote at all for a jap import vvtli :(

Yeah, i wasn't changing car or anything though, was just pricing around on renewal. Nononsense.ie were the same! They said they are very strict on what cars they insure:rolleyes: Nonsense!

Would be afraid of buying a car and just ringing your insurance company to change. They could ask for mad money.

I didn't think people actually believed that one :P It's kinda common knowledge at this stage that if you ring them and say "Ive just bought X car, I'd like to transfer my insurance" there's fup all they can do. It's unlikely they'll charge all that much either, but prepare for a shafting once renewal comes around.

Hahaha - Yeah, right. Like the magic quote calculator actually takes safety into account. More likely that someone would knife the roof and steal it quite easily.

Exactly, make sure the quote is not for a 1.8 Toyota as some insurers have basic details for quote but when you give actual details of the model and hp of the car they will not stand over the initial quote.

It wount work. As they will ask you reg, and as soon as you going to tell about deposit, they will know you are a chancer. I tryed that before witj quinn.

As for axa, there is no hope they will insure you if you even got a policy with them.

I bought clk200 amd tryed to update policy, they tpld me that they camt insure it as i have to be 35 years old. I had car bought. So i had to cancel my policy, was not a problem as quinn took me woth evem better deal then i had on previuos car.

I've a 1996 2.0l Celica, I'm 38 and 2 penalty points, 10 years+ driving with no claims... mine is around €873 with Quinn. (fully comp with that claim protection stepback option plus the little extra charge to pay monthly)

So €1600 isn't that ridiculous really.

Like I did :( changed from a 1.6 Subaru to a 1.8 Celica and the insurance company I'm with want an extra €250 to cover it for the remaining 10 months of my policy.

It only cost me €350 last December for 12 months on the Subaru so they're nearly doubling it. Needless to say I'm cancelling and going elsewhere. Britton insurance have quoted €340 TPFT for 12 months on the Celica! Happy Days :D

With insurance premiums as low as yours you shouldn't be allowed post in this thread.
