What would you buy? replacement for 320d

Just got a buyer for our 2004 BMW 320d, so I have 11k (no thats not what I was paid for the 320) to spend on a sensible family saloon (we have a toddler and a baby). What's out there that I can buy? Would prefer newer than 2006 and diesel. Thanks

I just got myself a Mondeo 2.0 Tdci

I have to say that I am amazed at the car. Real feeling of quality. And far better than my 06 Accord that I thought was wonderful until I got the Mondeo.

Take one for a drive.

There's no such thing as a sensible family saloon. For a family, you want an estate, big hatchback or MPV.

no problem with estates and it does seem like a lot of car for the money. Any other suggestions?

OP - you need to tell us why the 320d did not meet your needs anymore, otherwise we can't come up with useful suggestions

I would not fancy a 3 series with 2 kids, rear space and boot just not up to all the clutter. OP I would seriously be looking at an estate of some sort.

Granted the Focus and Octavia may fall a bit short of the BMW in the rear, but not by much. But with the large boot they are convincing packages. The Megane Estate sits on a stretched wheelbase and is far more spacious in the rear than any three series I've ever been in!

I can see the Ocatavia 'big boot' jokes beginning soon but in all seriousness, with two kids you need a car with a large boot so look at that as one of your primary factors imo.

MIL wants to buy 320 otherwise we would keep it a bit longer. she has a 95 vectra and its wrecked so I cant really say no to her.

More boot space would be great. other than that I still really like the 320

and post 2008 road tax big plus for that kind of engine size

I totally agree agree with the mondeo recommendation, the newer 07 models can be had for very reasonable and its a great car. If I wasnt driving a bmw, i would be driving a mondeo...

How about a V70? That particular one is a bit above your budget. This one is a bit below.

Would a lot of cars that age be company cars traded in? Not that theres anything wrong with that, just wondering how prevalent it would be?

Price comparable to Mondeo but seems to have more kit.
