Not happening for the foreseeable future.

Irish Film Channel and Houses of the Oireachtas Channel are not funded or controlled by RTE,
The Film board, which has no money will fund the Film Channel. FF actually talked about abolishing the Film Board in 2009.

The infrastructure for two Oireachtas Channels has exsisted for years (various feeds are on line), The Government has to spend the money to get it carried. It could have been FTA last 5 years on 28.2E. Most such channels are FTA across europe. The TDs are in no rush to be on telly, hence never allocated money for it.

Saorview is just a replacement for Analogue. We are lucky to get anything extra. It's not intended to be a service like Freeview, Freesat, UPC or Sky.

Why does RTE ignore DTT? Last night, I was watching 'The Eleventh Hour' which ended at 11:40pm, but continued on 'the internet'. It actually continued on 'RTE NEWS NOW'.

Surely, they told continuity that they have DTT now, and thet they have a channel called 'RTE NEWS NOW' and what they broadcast. Or maybe not.

They are starting publicity end Feb Start March
    Full launch May
It's likely some people here know more than some people working in RTE. It's very structured and "need to know" basis of Information spreading.

Will there be any channels like DCTV, City Channel Dublin, City Channel Galway, City Channel South, Cork Community TV, P5tv be available on Saorview or Saorsat?

Will ther be a tuner to recieve Free to air channels?

Unlikely. It's not competiton to PayTV platforms. It's a replacement for Analogue Free To Air National TV.

Everything known is on http://www.mpeg4ireland.com/ and http://www.saortv.info/ The Official site www.saorview.ie is a bit lighter on detail.

    Not sure what you mean?

There are set-boxes, PVRs and TVs with Terrestrial FTA tuner built in for a couple of years now.
There are set-boxes, PVRs for Satellite FTA (Freesat HD recommended)
There are a few set-box combos that do Terrestrial and Satellite, but these are not very compatible. (lack auto tune on Satellite, BBC Interactive, limitations on EPG etc.)
There are a few TVs (overpriced) with Satellite and Terrestrial Digital Tuners.

There are more better solutions than there are for Traditional Analogue TV and Digital Satellite.

    City Channel South

That (Channel South ) is gone for ages anyway - upc viewers which had it now have Dublin's City Channel in its place

There's no reason in theory that they couldn't be on Saorview (or Saorsat), but community TV groups are not going to be able to afford the huge sums of money that would have to be paid for carriage.

City Channel is part owned by upc, and i suspect they have no plans to pay for it to go on other platforms in addition to their own.

Satellite would cost them a tiny tiny fraction of the money. Also currently DTT is not organised/designed for regional options. Every site is the same.

    .

I do not believe FF or any other political party called for this "abolition". See http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=61175353&postcount=3

It was proposed by that economist Colm McCarthy or whateverhisnameis. An Bord Snip Nua.

Ok, the FF appointed reviewers. Hopefully the new Government will see some value in indigenous production.
