is it illegal to drive here with an isle of man licence?

as above. the gaurds say i must change it but some revenue sites say you can drive here while it is valid??

It looks like if you have been a resident in Ireland for more than 12 months you are supposed to exchange your licence for an Irish one.

but i work over for most of the year only come back here once or twice a year.

Once you spend more than half the year living outside the country you don't live here and so don't require the change.
